Any electrician knows that Lego bricks are genderless, not 'heteronormative', because each can 'mate' with any other. Perhaps Science Museum staff should study to be electricians and actually make themselves useful.

At its' October 2005 conference the Workers Solidarity Movement made a large number of changes to our position paper on 'The Partition of Ireland'. The first draft of this paper was posted to indymedia back in August 2004 leading to a debate over some 68 comments ( see http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=66227 ). In November 2004 Organise! published a major response to our position paper called 'Crossing the border' (see http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=67598 ) leading to another 30 or so comments. Below we present the new version of the position paper for further debate and discussion. read full story / add a comment

Real democracies are populated with active not passive citizens; passivity is characteristic of totalitarian and other oppressive regimes. Prior to any government or ruling body eliminating hard-won liberties and circumventing constitutional rights, the population must necessarily become timid, fearful, apathetic and passive. How simple it becomes to harness and manipulate such a population! read full story / add a comment

The strike by members of the Communications Workers Union (CWU) in An Post is to go ahead from Monday after last-ditch talks facilitated through the National Implementation Body (NIB) to avert planned strike action ended without a breakthrough. Pickets will be placed on the GPO in Dublin from Midnight Sunday, meaning the GPO will be closed, and a nationwide overtime ban will also come into effect.

Things are slightly complicated by the fact, that, at the moment, only the CWU will be on strike from Monday. However many members of the other 3 unions representing An Post workers, the CPSU, PSEU and AHCPS have said that they will refuse to cross any picket lines, thus raising the prospect of suspensions, and a very rapid escalation of the dispute. read full story / add a comment

The text below is a translation of a press release issued by one of the activists.

Coverage on a Danish anti-war website includes photos of the action and four of the protesters:

We have it from Noel Dempsey that thre is no foundation to unsubstantiated rumours that SHELL and its asscociates in The Corrib Gas Field may have been generous with corporate hospitality to public servants.

In answer to a Parliamentary Question from Treveor Sargent, the Minister replied :

"There has never been sufficient corporate hospitality by any licensee involved in offshore exploration to warrant the necessity for a declaration under the [Ethics in Public ]Acts." read full story / add a comment
