President Trump can topple the Paris Climate Agreement house of cards by putting energy policy on a sound and rational footing. Indeed, says Tilak Doshi, any nation doing the same would reject the climate change hobgoblin.

The Danish Defence Intelligence Service predicts an ongoing very high level of threat to the Danish troops in Iraq, according to the government’s proposal to extend Denmark’s military presence

After the end of the next five months’ extension, due to be passed at the end of this month, the Danish Social Democrats and Social Liberals have stated that they will no longer support Denmark’s military presence in Iraq, since the government is not willing to set a deadline for withdrawal of the Danish troops.

dublin / bin tax / household tax / water tax / news report Monday January 16, 2006 16:34 by Bin Tax Campaigner   text 7 comments (last - sunday april 06, 2008 14:37)
Last week DCC claimed that 95% of households have paid the Bin Tax. Today they claimed it was 80%. Here are the accurate figures as provided in a reply to Cllr. Joan Collins (Ind.).

Waiver: 40,000 households
Fully Paid: 35,000 households
Not paid/Arrears: 36,000 households

So over half the households due to pay have not paid the tax in full or have not paid at all. This does not take into account the fact that many households have withdrawn from the service (one quarter nationally) and that rates of non-payment are much higher than average in working class areas of the city.

Last month's Phoenix ran an interesting story indicating that the CIA are / were also using Baldonnel to refuel the aircraft that are used for their "extraordinary renditions". In the most recent January edition, the Phoenix reports that G2 (defence forces intelligence) have been trying to discover the source of this information rather than investigate the flights themselves.

Since this information is not available elsewhere online, it has been reprinted here in the public interest. read full story / add a comment

Ms. Justice Macken is due to decide today on costs arising from Eoin Dubsky's failed legal challenge to US military refueling in Ireland. On December 13th she returned the High Court's judgement, denying that a "war" is an "armed conflict", and thus Ireland cannot be said to be "participating in war". Furthermore it is sufficient for the government to make Government policy verbally, never writing down what exactly it is they have decided to do. read full story / add a comment

:-) its a Sunday, and that means "mass" things. & in Chile the mass did the voting thing, and because it is a *legal obligation* of Chilean citizenship when in residence and of suffrage age to vote...

Thus there really isn't a "not vote" count. But over 200,000 people have presented their documents in Chilean police stations today to prove they were more than 200km from their polling point. Considering Chile is a country which stretches for over 6,340 kilometres in length, its quite easy to dodge the polls. read full story / add a comment

Social cohesion has never been more fragile than in the present. Developing an effective survival strategy in an age of bankrupt ideologies (political and other) is a challenging but not impossible task. All known political ideologies have failed or are failing (including capitalism). The lack of viable alternatives betrays a beaten and retractive population not a shortage of options. read full story / add a comment
