kildare / animal rights / news report Tuesday May 09, 2006 02:28 by published by Greyhound Action Ireland   text 5 comments (last - tuesday july 11, 2006 03:40)
AN animal welfare charity that rehomes abandoned greyhounds for Bord na gCon has been told to pick up a huge tab after the board said it has no more money to give them.

Gina Hetherington of PAWS in Sallins, Co Kildare, says she has been left reeling by the news that the Irish Greyhound Board's 2006 fund for retired dogs, which stands at €250,000, is apparently gone - despite being just four months into the year.

The charity, which rescues abandoned greyhounds from pounds, may now have to find up to €145,000 to cover veterinary bills, kennel boarding fees and transport costs or else leave the unwanted dogs to their grisly fate. read full story / add a comment

With the recent drop of Huntingdon Life Sciences (stock symbol: LSRI) off of
the Pink Sheets and onto the 'Grey Market' and the loss of their last
significant institutional investor, Columbia Management/Bank of America, the
only thing keeping HLS afloat is their key customers and suppliers. While a
watchful eye on Wall Street will show whether anyone else gets the bright
idea of investing in LSRI or making a market for them, attention should now
be focused on the small group of companies that are providing HLS with
enough ballast to keep their heads above water read full story / add a comment

It's seems that this week Shell and the Department of Marine have been making lots of contradictory statements, almost as if they were trying to give different impressions to different audiences. Andy Pyle's expression of "regret" over the imprisonment of the Rossport Five, while his lawyers are seeking a permanent injunction which he knows will almost certainly result in the five men being returned to prison, is the best example, but there have been plenty more.

I guess we'll have to discount what they say, and watch what they do. read full story / add a comment

An American F-14 tomcat tail fin was discovered washed up on an Irish Beach on friday this week. The fin was in very good condition which suggests it has only been in the water for a few weeks or months. The U.S. navy denies losing any planes in the region or any tail fins, so this begs the question, where did it come from? What are the U.S. military covering up? read full story / add a comment
