A look at the never-ending story of the Peace process and its continious lurches from crisis, to hope to failure, and back again. We give this as a sample of some of the ideas and analysis that you can find in the latest issue of Workers Solidarity # 84 which is available though the usual outlets i.e. it's members! read full story / add a comment

national / public consultation / irish social forum / event notice Thursday February 10, 2005 17:25 by Barney Hartnett
Barney Hartnett is a Socialist. He is also an active member of his union. In Ballymun on the north side of Dublin he has been editor of the local community paper "The Ballymun Echo" for over 22 years. Barney is also a member of the Retired Workers Committee of Congress.
In the April election of last year he was only one vote short of being elected to the Executive Committee. Barney will fight for a fair deal for all senior citizens. His record proves he is the man for the job.
Pensioners who are dissatisfied with the recent budget increase of a miserable €12 per week should vote for Barney Hartnett for the Executive Committee.
If you are a trade unionist, community activist and senior citizen support Barney in the important election.
Lets fight back now! read full story / add a comment

Raytheon, Branch Road, Derry

FEIC first dug its memorial grave dedicated to the people of Fallujah on Friday 19 November. Since then the grave has been desecrated and reinstated dozens of times. Despite Raytheon’s attempts to erase this memorial, we continue at this site of struggle to remember the nameless and numberless dead murdered with Raytheon’s product in Iraq. This Saturday, we will dig the grave again.

It is worth reflecting on the words of one US Army soldier in Fallujah, -- Lieutenant Colonel Brennan Byrne, commander of 1st Battalion of the 5th Marine Regiment. Interviewed by Robert D. Kaplan, The Atlantic Monthly (published in July/August 2004 as Five Days in Fallujah), he said:

"The bad guys only have what God gave them; we have what Raytheon gave us."

Please bring flowers, candles and white ribbons. read full story / add a comment

Gay Wedding For Philippine Communist Rebels

Two communist rebel fighters in the Philippines have tied the knot in a ceremony at a jungle base.

The pair are members of the New People's Army, rebels who have been fighting for independence in rural areas since the late 1960s.

The NPA added same-sex relationships and marriage to its independence manifesto policy in 1998. But, the Philippine government which has been waging war against the communists does not recognize gay relationships and in much of the country homosexuality remains a taboo. read full story / add a comment
