Working class people throughout Ireland are suffering deep anxiety. With poverty, homelessness and unemployment escalating, the feeling is that we are on the edge of a phenomenal disaster.

That sense of dread has been exploited by a government bent on even more savage attacks on public spending. We had been told previously that we were facing €3 billion in cuts this December. Now it is certain to be much more. A new four year economic plan is to be imposed aimed at reducing the economic deficit to 3% by 2014. So there could be up to €7 billion in cuts this December, with more to follow. This will mean increases in taxes, in particular the introduction of taxes on the low-paid. It will also mean unprecedented attacks on health-care, social welfare, child benefit, pensions, education and just about every area of social provision. read full story / add a comment

We'll be having another extra long protest at Barnardo's on Saturday 23rd October 12.30pm - 2.30pm- please come along and support our fight against the fur trade!

Those ex-fur farmers (who, we were informed, are paid by Barnardo's to protest our protests) are back, promoting animal abuse and creating controversy with their hateful, racist and sexist comments - but, as expected, this is resulting in more support for us and our campaign! So, come join us on Saturday, for what should be a very interesting demo! read full story / add a comment

Amid the hum of words spoken and written here in Ecuador and further afield about the events of Thursday, September 30, two are easily discernible: “coup” and “democracy”. Yet it can be argued that neither concept had much to do with what unfolded on that day.
It would be easy to say that the convulsions that gripped Ecuador on that day were just more of the same. This is a country, after all, that has deposed three elected presidents by different means (none of them impeachment), and at one stage could count 9 different presidents in 10 years.

In 1973 the democratically elected Allende government which was trying to improve conditions for the Chilean workers and peasants was overthrown by a US backed dictatorship. The thug Pinochet was put in power. It slaughtered tens of thousands of workers and peasants. Pinera the President of Chile we see with his phony grin and his brother were backers of the dictatorship. We need to reach out to the miners to help them use their worldwide fame and strength to organize an international tour to organize the organized and to build solidarity with all workers. read full story / add a comment

A remarkable love story, a prison drama, a socially-conscious film, and an experimental film all rolled into one. The somewhat misleadingly titled 'Sex in Chains' tells the story of a perfect match and a perfect marriage, which despite the couple’s devotion to each other, can not sustain the pressures brought about by poverty, injustice, and loneliness.

the Chilean miners rescue was watched by tens of millions of people worldwide. These workers are now heros internationally for their great collective struggle underground to stay alive. Unfortunately they are now being corralled by the Chilean President and his right wing capitalist allies. Instead these heroic workers should be organized to go on a Chilean wide and world wide tour to organize the unorganized, to oppose the attacks on workers and to put forward the democratic socialist alternative. read full story / add a comment

The mine owners were so greedy for profits they would not put in the proper safety safeguards and this is why the miners were trapped in the first place. The right wing in Chile are trying to exploit the popularity of the miners. see the right wing president at the rescue site. but it was the right wing who supported their hero the dictator Pinochet who slaughtered tens of thousands of union and left activists. if this had not happened the miners union might have been strong enough to enforce safe conditions in the mine and not been trapped in the first place. read full story / add a comment
