dublin / bin tax / household tax / water tax / other press Thursday March 08, 2007 15:02 by IMPACT newsreader
During the height of the bin tax battle, Anti-Bin Tax activists argued that the introduction of bin charges would lead to amongst other things, fewer jobs, increase in collection routes for remaining workers, increase in illegal dumping, introduction of private operators and the end of the waiver system. In two articles in the IMPACT news it would seem that the penny has finally dropped there. I post the articles here in full as non-IMPACT members might not get to see these articles. read full story / add a comment
national / environment / event notice Thursday March 08, 2007 15:00 by Erik van Lennep
Cultivate Sustainble LIving Centre, Dublin announces a series of practical skill building courses on climate change and energy. The season of learning and acivity is being kicked off by Jeremy Leggett, UK who jumped from the oil industry to Greenpeace, and now is promoting conversion of all housing stock to solar. He is doing it not with words, but by providing the technology directly through Solar Century Ltd. He will be meeting with potential partners while in Dublin, hoping to set up a branch here. This is part of the response to climate change we should all examine. It puts the power (literally) back into each of our hands, and moves forward a survival agenda which government is ignoring. read full story / add a comment

Right-wing Sarkozy (Minister of the Interior), famous for provoking and fanning the riots of 2006 (see http://ie.indymedia.org/article/74925 ) has proposed a new law which would make it illegal for anyone except an accredited journalist to take footage of violence. The irony of the timing has not been lost on many as Tuesday was the anniversary of the Rodney King beating in LA which sparked what locals call the "uprising" and others call the "LA Riots". read full story / add a comment

“The Fourth World War” by Richard Rowley and Jacqueline Soohen was shot on the frontlines of struggles spanning five continents where the mainstream media cannot go. The Fourth World War is the untold human story of men and women who resist being annihilated in the current global conflict.
This film captures the spirit of resistance: it is as beautiful and global as humanity itself. It includes struggles from Palestine, Iraq, South Africa, Argentina, Mexico, New York and South Korea.
