Feminist open forum will discuss the upcoming trial of the 9 women
protestors versus the missile-making Raytheon contractor based in Derry.
In 2009 protestors barricaded themselves into the
Raytheon missile factory to highlight their inhumane and fatal
operations. One of the main customers of Raytheon is the Israeli
Defense forces which killed 28 Gaza civilians in 2008 with a Raytheon
“bunker buster” bomb.

A new survey carried out by AIMS Ireland (Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services, Ireland) found that 22% of women surveyed stated the care they received postnatally was “poor”, whilst a further 23% found the care to be only “average”. Furthermore, 23% of women rated the quality of information they received from their carer postpartum to be “poor”. By contrast, only 3% found their care during pregnancy to be “poor”. read full story / add a comment

The TUI voted unanimously yesterday to reject the Croke Park pay deal. This morning Mary Coughlan gave a speech at the union's annual conference during which she made no reference to yesterday's vote nor did she take any questions from the floor. When she finished, a union member at the front bobbed up beside her wearing a Sean Fitzpatrick face-mask. Members treated her to total silence both before and after her speech. In contrast Ryan was greeted with constant rounds of applause and standing ovations throughout his speech. read full story / add a comment

Prisoners are only allowed to wear the lilies - a symbol of the 1916 Rising - in their cells.

The relatives of some prisoners claimed that a work to rule by staff, had also affected conditions in the jail.

Geraldine Taylor from Republican Sinn Fein in Belfast said: "They just decided enough is enough, which we totally agree with and they're not going to take it lying down any longer.

"That was really the reason because they're locked up for 23 hours. During that period they don't get fed, they don't get water, they don't get using the showers, they don't get out for exercise or anything else.
