People who have spent long periods on neuroleptic medication are familiar with the deadening effect it produces, its effect on physical well-being. It requires the utmost in personal resources to maintain any kind of fulfilling or enjoyable lifestyle while taking these drugs. Proof of this is the widespread issue of non-compliance where mental patients are concerned. Plainly the main reason why mental patients resist taking prescribed medication is that all of the medications including newer ones like Risperdal are unpleasant and debilitating. read full story / add a comment

A major and imminent threat to women’s rights looms in the amendments being put forward to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill. ‘Pro-life’ MPs aim to reduce the time limit for abortion from 24 weeks to as little as 13 weeks. Although the Labour Party formally defends the current time limits, Gordon Brown like his predecessors will allow a free vote, so as to appease the significant and vocal anti-abortion section within the cabinet. From reports, it seems likely that there will be some reduction, probably to 20 weeks, given the current balance of forces, as there is strong support for such a move among Tory, Liberal Democrat and Labour MPs alike - all of whom will have a free vote. David Cameron has taken the lead by announcing that he will be using his vote to lower the limit. read full story / add a comment

This is a very interesting 'theory' about the events concerning Politics.ie and Fianna Fail. http://skinflicks.blogspot.com/2008/03/politicsie-consp....html More Info on the situation here: http://www.stalltheball.com/index.php/2008/03/30/irelan...h_hah Have looked around and I would say this is having a significant chilling effect on public discussion of the tribunal on the web. Can't talk about it on politics.ie or boards.ie anymore Significantly the cache is still available on google of the original thread which staryed this off. Search: 'Grainne Carruth politics.ie' Gene Kerrigan article available here which puts the whole thing in a stark light: http://www.politics.ie/viewtopic.php?t=33229 Democracy or soft dictatorship? Below is a letter that I recently sent to about 120 newspapers. A small number have got back to me to say they are featurising the story. Others are publishing it as a letter. The Sunday Business Post got in contact to see if it was sent to anyone else (I haven't heard from them since I said it was; my personal thought it that if it's not their scoop, they're not interested). It has also been sent to Tesco (without a reply, yet!). Feel free to copy/distribute/send to Tesco. read full story / add a comment

Since the international water conference in Dublin in 1992, the international community has continued to refuse (institutionally) to recognise the access to water as a human right, i.e. as a universal, impartible and untouchable right. A proposed resolution by Germany & Spain to include water as a universal right through the framework of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva has been blocked by Canada & the USA. This might be because Canada has lots of H2O as the clean bit of the fluid is called by first worlders once they take out the oestrogen, cryptosporidium, residual heavy metals & artificial colourings. Third worlders have many words for water & don't often worry about the oestrogen, cryptosporidium & heavy metals due to the cholera thing which can sometimes worries them more than the lack of artificial colourings in their water which often gives it a brownish or greyish tint......This is quite normal.......Honestly it is. read full story / add a comment
