On the 20th April 2010 the First Minister and Deputy First Minister in the North of Ireland published draft legislation in the form of the “Public Assemblies, Parades and Protests Bill”. If the Bill becomes law, ALL gatherings involving 50 or more people, and which take place in any “public space” will be required to give 37 days prior notice. The proposed legislation has ostensibly been put forward as a means of dealing with contentious parades. This is a cynical, dishonest move designed to encourage the wider population to ignore the proposals. A public meeting to establish a broad based campaign to oppose this legislation will be held in the Holiday Inn, Ormeau Avenue, Belfast on Thursday 13th May at 7.00pm read full story / add a comment

INTRO SpinWatch (www.spinwatch.org), created in 2005, provides public interest reporting on spin and deception, and campaigns for lobbying transparency. Spinwatch are co-founders of the Europe-wide Alliance for Lobbying Transparency and Ethics Regulation and the more recent UK campaign, the Alliance for Lobbying Transparency. Spinwatch has come under sustained attack from a bizarre group of former left wing activists who switched to the pro-market right in the 1990s. Today, this 'LM Network' act as lobbyists for and defenders of multinational corporations. As such, the LM Network features on the associated SpinProfiles.org website (http://spinprofiles.org/index.php?title=LM_network). Because of that fact the LM network, that guards its origins and activities from prying eyes, has attempted to undermine Spinwatch's credibility. read full story / add a comment

Together with over 300 cities from around the world, Legalise Cannabis Ireland are proud to announce that the fourth annual Legalise Cannabis Day is to take place in both Dublin and Cork this Saturday the 8th of May. Through experience in this anonymous subculture we have repeatedly found that the vast majority of cannabis users in Ireland can consume cannabis responsibly. These are typically decent and similarly unharmful people who should be able to consume cannabis without being criminalised or having fear of oppression for doing so. Due to the nature of prohibition, our culture is largely unfarmiliar in the general public's eye. Despite this, we will march in protest of the criminalisation of cannabis users and we call for full utilisation of the cannabis plant for its medical, industrial, recreational and agricultural values. read full story / add a comment

We apologise to all concerned for having to re-schedule at such short notice. Our facilitators were unable to get back for the workshop due to the volcanic ash flight disturbances.
