Bulletin 25 of the DHKP (Revolutionary People's Liberation Party) states that throughout its 33 years, the DHKP and its predecessor organisations have always shown self-sacrifice and opposed imperialism. It adds that it also stood up to the ideological pressures of the 1990s, and sees the current attack on Iraq as showing what imperialism is, stripped of its propaganda. read full story / add a comment

It is comforting to know that our brave administration is willing to pay a "high price" in the lives of our sons and daughters to have their war. Referring to nights in World War II "when we'd lose 1000 people", he added: "There will come a time maybe when things are going to be much more shocking." read full story / add a comment

US soldiers killed 7 women and children who were attempting to flee Najaf. This was an implementation of the earlier publically stated policy of the US/K forces which announced an intention to shoot anyone that didn't stop at a check point. Contrast the reporting of this outrage with the simulated horror which greeted the uncomfirmed Pentagon-seeded stories about Iraqi troops firing upon civilians attempting to flee cities. read full story / add a comment

Despite all the marches, protests, and passion, the Irish anti-war movement has failed totally to end the use of Shannon as a warport. The vast majority of anti-war activists have failed to make any connection between Anglo-America's economic and political domination of Ireland, North and South, and the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq. To protest Anglo-American imperialism's attack on Iraq and ignore that same imperialism's much longer, and much deeper, penetration of Ireland's economy and polity, serves but to validate US/K's imperial grip on Ireland. The most effective way for the Irish anti-war movement to defeat Anglo-American imperialism, in Iraq or elsewhere, is to resist all its manifestations in Ireland. Until that happens, all the noise and protests are but so much ineffective posturing. read full story / add a comment

NHS: In late February 2003 Northern Ireland Office Health Minister Des Browne announced the closure of a number of hospitals across Northern Ireland. He was essentially adopting the proposals contained in what has become known as the “Hayes Report”. This pamphlet is being published by the Socialist Party as a comprehensive reply to the arguments of Hayes’. Please draw this important, detailed document to all those involved in campaigns to defend their local hospitals, etc. Feedback on the ideas presented in the pamphlet would be welcome. read full story / add a comment

If anybody out there is seriously interested in doing something to stop the use of Shannon in this war, please come to Shannon anytime over the next 10 days. Ed Horgan's case against the government is in the High Court on Thursday and we really need to have people here logging the flights and making visible protest. If you can spare a few hours anytime of day or night, call us on 061-365871. If you come and camp you can use our house as base. If you come without a tent we can put you up, we might even feed you if you're lucky. Just get here please. If possible, bring binoculars, warm clothes and a sleeping bag. read full story / add a comment

Israeli public-sector workers are intensifying an indefinite strike in protest at austerity plans, which the government says is vital to rescue the stagnant economy. Some 100,000 municipal workers joined the strike on Monday, adding to 50,000 ministry employees who walked out on Sunday. The protest will halt refuse collection, close some schools, disrupt welfare activity, and even prevent enforcement of parking regulations. Unions have threatened a general strike over a sweeping government programme of cut-backs in public expenditure, including 10% pay cuts for civil servants. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/2902261.stm read full story / add a comment
