Gardai have given notice to three Traveller families in Blackpool in Cork that unless they leave their camp by Wednesday June 30th, the 2002 Anti-Trespass law will be used against them. They got the notice (verbally) on Monday night. Under the 2002 legislation, their trailers and cars can be seized and sold if the families refuse to move. Some local people are prepared to support TVG in protesting against the eviction, to draw public attention to this brutal practice. read full story / add a comment

The following article has just been published in the latest edition of Comhlamh’s magazine, Focus (Winter 2003/Spring 2004). Written by Fintan Lane while in prison back in January, it argues that anti-war activists need “to develop a strategy based on tactical diversity”. Might be worth a read as people re-assess things after the Bush visitation. read full story / add a comment

Global Women's Strike

'....We in the US have paid for the brutal and illegal wars that this unelected president has urged us to fight for him, with homelessness, starvation, high infant mortality, no health care for millions, working three and four jobs just to survive. Our children are neglected, illiterate, undernourished and poisoned by junk food, polluted air and water, and pharmaceutical drugs. This is the greatness of the United States of America...we and our children are left with fewer choices other than Mcjobs, prostitution, prisons, and finally the military - we call it the poverty draft...' read full story / add a comment

For weeks before the Bush visit the government and the mdia were going on about the need for extensive security for the Bush visit. The threat to the US President was real and had to be dealt with accordingly. Those in the anti-war movement argued that the security operation had more to do with preventing peaceful protest than anything else. I am outlining some of my experience of the security around Shannon read full story / add a comment

CAD one is gone.
He's in Turkey.
They got bombed to say greet him.
He's gone and laid a wreath to Ataturk.
Their workers are going to get the chop.
You in Ireland have accomplished one of the Geopolitically most succesful protests in the most creative and wideband way with wonderful results.
Ceasar is still however a Wookie, Militarist Fetishist, and ordinary people and well paid Levant type Oil workers are still getting blown up for it. read full story / add a comment

The presidential re-election visit to Ireland of the world’s most hated man was a spectacular failure for Bush. As importantly, the extravaganza backfired on the Irish government. Bertie Ahern played the part of a lapdog to great affect, and nobody in Ireland liked it. Unusually, the media in Ireland refrained from assisting the government from putting a positive gloss on an unpopular action (given the depth of opposition to Bush, it couldn’t do anything else), and the Bush administration was made acutely aware of the deep-felt opposition to the US president and his “War on Terror”. The Carol Coleman interview with Bush allowed us all to witness the Texan cowboy squirm when confronted with his unpopularity amongst the Irish. read full story / add a comment
