On February 20 the Article 133 Committee of the EU meets in Dublin Castle. They make proposals to the EU's trade negotiators on what deals they should make. OUR WORLD IS NOT FOR SALE Privatisation and international trade affect all aspects of our lives. But thousands of people all over Dublin have defied the bin tax.And the resistance by Dublin bus and Aer Rianta workers shows that we can oppose the neo-liberal agenda. We must not let them away with selling our assets to the highest bidder.Come to the protest on Feb 20th and show that -Our world is not for sale! read full story / add a comment

The drop in CAO numbers was reported on the front page of last Wednesday’s Irish Times. However it only briefly mentioned that the OECD is currently working on a report of the third level sector here. What it didn’t mention though was that this was at the behest of the Higher Education Authority. Also going unreported is the fact that the OECD heaped praise in a report (following an IMF heaping similar praise) upon Blair’s top up fees in January. I wonder if the HEA and the Dept of Education are expecting an OECD change of heart, in regards to it’s future report for our colleges? read full story / add a comment

The ESF may not take place in London due to extreme lack of cashfIow but if it does this is what we're looking at: I just received the following mail about the London ESF meetings from an activist friend. It's a familiar litany of undemocratic, concensus-free, bullying decision making based on a phony "we don't have time to discuss it so let's just agree in principle and then forget about it argument." read full story / add a comment

Who can deny that the Bush Junta did not leap into action. The instant people complained, a federal enquiry was launched to discover what happened, why and to make sure it does not happen again. Shame it was only Janet Jackson's breast that got that treatment. read full story / add a comment

The Hard Left consistently claim that the insurrection in Iraq is due to PEOPLE POWER. They have romantic notions of the oppressed proletariat of Iraq rising up against the United States oppressor. They deny that Al-Qaeda is intimately involved in terrorist attacks against coalition forces, Iraq people themselves and is fanatically opposed to the international community represented by the United Nations becoming involved in the rebuilding of Iraq as a free democratic society. read full story / add a comment

The latest spectacular daylight attacks on forces collaborating with the US-led coalition in Iraq signal a growing boldness on the part of the resistance to mount sustained and complex operations. The US army sat out the attacks in their barracks two miles away but sent planes to drop , "balloons". read full story / add a comment |
