I'm just back from a trip to Athens, where I was visiting a friend. Whilst there, I had the privilege to march with our Greek brothers and sisters in a demonstration.
(In case you've been living under a rock, Greek police shot and killed a 15 year old boy on the 6th of December) I think its important that I share my experiences with as many people as possible because in general the media outside of Greece tends to show the police in a far more favorable light than they deserve. Before I write about what I saw yesterday, I must say the Greek student movement is incredible. I have never seen a student movement as informed, passionate, driven and well executed as I did in Greece. We should all be taking a lesson from them. read full story / add a comment

"At about 1 am GMT Free Gaza boat - Spirit of Humanity - which was in international waters was surrounded by 5 Israeli boats. They questioned the 21 civilians on board the Free Gaza, asking them their nationalities and the purpose for their trip, which was to take 5 tons of medical supplies.

They gave 3 warnings that if they didn't turn back they would be fired upon (all this in international waters) and effected dangerous manoevres that put the safety of the boat in doubt as there was a high risk of collision. "

While the attack on Gaza is pretty much continuous, reports from people in Gaza on Al Jazeera English say that the worst of it is always at night - with noticeable intensification at dawn. The dawn raids are deliberately timed to coincide with the early morning call to prayers from the minarets. It makes a hideous contrast.
Anyway, a bunch of media activists have decided to stay with the people of Gaza each night and to watch what is going on via A J English, if you can get it, and to post commentary on the Medialens messageboard. We're a small group yet, but hopefully more will join us each night.

Al Jazeera have a creative commons repository which permits people reuse their their footage of their Gaza related coverage in an attempt to help get the truth of the situation out - a tacit criticism of other mainstream media.

"Let us know! You can send us a message through our contact form.

According the license, you must attribute the footage to Al Jazeera (but not in any way that suggests that we endorse you or your use of our work).

You are required to leave our logos intact, reference this website and the license itself."

The vicious assault on a bus driver and the theft of a Dublin Bus in Cork Street, Dublin last week has once again shown us that antisocial behaviour in becoming increasingly out of hand. This interview was held the day after Israel broke the ceasefire though it was as yet unclear what the reports from Gaza on the 5th November would lead to. It has been edited to include a response from RD to the latest round of violence against the Palestinians and sad to say it seems the media are incapable of reflecting accurately on the causes and ongoing atrocities inflicted on Palestinians by Israel. The taboo about criticising Israel is still largely intact. read full story / add a comment
