Socialist Democracy has issued a declaration in response to the recent sectarian violence in the north. We believe this declaration represents a basic socialist analysis of sectarianism and how it should be challenged. We are urging individuals and organisations to support it. read full story / add a comment

Kay Mulhall, a Brigidine Sister who has recently returned after 17 years of working in Mexico in the social / pastoral field and with Basic Christian Communities, gives an account of overall situation in Mexico. She lived there through the Zapatista uprising, and more recently the electoral defeat of the PRI government, in power for over 70 years. She describes the euphoria over the change, followed by disappointment as economic and social policy showed no real evidence of change. read full story / add a comment

This is VERY IMPORTANT, this is something happening on our own door steps, where corporate greed is attempting to destroy this beautiful natural area. This is a most beautiful, historic area where UL want to stick an disgusting ugly bridge and student village and they claim it will not have any detrimental effect. I would urge everyone who is even slightly interested to take a walk along the canal bank up to the Black Bridge and beyond and see what is at sacrifice, remember it can not be remedied once it is gone. Please everyone come and help out !!!!!!!!!! This is something where the more voices we have the better chance we have of being heard and changing the mind of UL. read full story / add a comment

Officially, the Ansbacher report is not available on the Web. The Director of Corporate Enforcement has declined to make it available online. I encourage all participants in Indymedia Ireland to contribute to making the findings of the report available to all who wish to read it for themselves, minus the filter of a newspaper's "summary". read full story / add a comment

The Gaza strip is a perfect realization of the Israeli vision of "separation". Surrounded with electric fences and army posts, completely sealed off the outside world, Gaza has become a huge prison. About one-third of its land was confiscated for the 7,000 Israeli settlers living there (and their defense array), while over a million Palestinians are crowded in the remaining areas of the prison. Now Israel is considering the imprisonment there of families of suicide bombers from the West Bank. read full story / add a comment
