In Shannon District Court yesterday, four well know anti-war activists were up before Judge Joseph Mangan. Two of the defendants asked the Judge to absent himself from their case because of previous remarks made by the judge regarding Iraq and Shannon. another defendant was imprisoned for refusing to agree to harsh new bail conditions. Galway City council is currently errecting a barrier around Eyre Square in Galway. They plan to close off access to the public for around a year, while they remove most of the existing trees in the square. DCU One World Society present “Little Johnny’s BIG Night Out”, a barmy night of frenzied entertainment supporting the Dublin Aids Alliance, catering for every taste imaginable featuring: Shirley Temple Bar, Joe Rooney, Broken Hill, Dublin Gospel Choir, Alphastates and many more. Early morning raids on houses in Dublin and the Holding Centre in Mosney resulted in the deportation of 60 'failed' asylum seekers to Romania and Moldova this morning. The Gards accommpanied them over to make sure they are delivered safe and sound into the hands of the Romanian police. Our Guardians of the Peace are probably preparing to make the journey back to Ireland this afternoon having aided in the forced transportation of nameless, faceless individuals who will be remembered (for about a week ) as the 'failed asylum seekers'. I can't help feeling that it is us who have failed these people. read full story / add a comment |
