Although I have been really busy recently, I though had agreed to be pencilled in to speak at a conference in Armagh city {this from Feb early March} for April 25th. The conference is under the title of ‘ Partners In Pluralism’. I am unsure if invitation only, but I specifically made a point of pencilling this in as it draws in many strands of our local situation, and so may afford those in attendance a better understanding of various issues as we attempt to move forward. Should be interesting. Link {November Diary} attached - details such topics ranging from racism to education, from empowerment to resources and other local specifics etc. read full story / add a comment

This is a 2 part drama documentary with the first showing on RTE 1: Sun 23rd at 9:35 pm and part 2 on RTE 1: Mon 23rd at 9:35 pm This promises to be a reasonably realistic account of how a major accident would unfold in Sellafield and the reactions in Ireland by the people and the government. The first we would hear of it would come as a newsflash over the radio and it poses the question to us all, as to how would we react and what would we do. We should remember of course there are many precedents for accidents at Sellafield and in particular the most serious was the Windscale fire on Oct 10th 1957 which spread radioactive Iodine over the UK and NorthEast Ireland where it has been suggested the high rate of Down Syndrome in kids born around then in that area, may be related. read full story / add a comment

the Bööög, is one of Zurich's treasures, and at the height of that city's Spring festival "Sechseläuten" or 6 bells, the 3.5 meter statue of a snowman whose head is stuffed with explosives is set alight. A group termed by Swiss press as extremist , calling itself the "1. Mai – Strasse Frei" (loosely translated as "Reclaiming the Streets on May Day"), is reported as sending a letter to the Swiss media claiming responsibility for the theft, saying the 3.5-metre tall snowman "had had enough of putting its head on the line for capitalists". read full story / add a comment

There was a well attended meeting held last night in Dublin where some of those arrested were present along with representatives from Anarchist Prisoner Solidarity, Anarchist Youth, Revolt Video, Peace Network and other campaigns. There was a lot of discussion of how best to help those arrested at Baldonnel and future activities to support the 4 ( Details will be released very soon) The legal support team who have been monitoring the recent events at Baldonnel have appealed for people who were present at Baldonnel to contact them with their accounts of the events. It is important that people write up their experiences as quickly as possible while events are still fresh in peoples minds Lots of film footage is currently being scrutinised by the Legal Support Team and we are aware that there is more footage and photos taken that day that may be of use in mounting a substantial defence for the 4. Would people please forward their statements etc. asap to: weknowitwasyou -at- riseup -dot- net Released On Behalf of Anarchist Prisoner Solidarity read full story / add a comment

For the past 11 weeks our Department of Education and Science and one of our Health Authorities have been in the High court spending millions of taxpayers’ money fighting to ensure that a young boy with special needs no longer gets the education that has been of great benefit to him over the last two years. Coca-Cola is one of the most recognizable brands in the world. The company claims to adhere to the “highest ethical standards” and to be “an outstanding corporate citizen in every community we serve”. Yet Coca-Cola’s activities around the world tell a different story. Coca-Cola has been accused of dehydrating communities in its pursuit of water resources to feed its own plants, drying up farmers’ wells and destroying local agriculture. The company has also violated workers’ rights in countries such as Colombia, Turkey, Guatemala and Russia. Only through its multi-million dollar marketing campaigns can Coca-Cola sustain the clean image it craves. read full story / add a comment

It’ no accident that many people are finding a rekindled interest in the writings of Karl Marx; the international assault of workers wages and benefits, continued warfare, and economic instability in general are causing a revival of the buried and slandered ideas of Marxism. Many of these concepts offer tremendous insight about the origins and workings of capitalism, and thus the causes of many of society’s current problems. Needless to say, involved are immense implications for anybody interested in becoming an activist. A “Marxist” is someone who accepts some of the key points about history and society first explained by Karl Marx and Fredrick Engels, and elaborated further by the writings of Lenin, Trotsky, and many others (Stalin, Mao, etc are Marxists in name only). Unfortunately, one cannot learn about these ideas by going to college, aside from the many biased and bastardized versions of the subject. The following is a brief explanation of some of the more important concepts of Marxism. read full story / add a comment

The appointment of Mr Gay Byrne as Chairman of the Road Safety Authority must be a welcomed appointment if only to see in time a respected public figure walk away from a charade that appears to have more emphasis placed on securing revenue rather than saving lives. We all know Gaybo will give it his very best, once what he is doing or saying finds a pleasurable interest and approval by those in the corridors of power. Some like him, some hate him but one thing is sure, if Gay walks away then we can safely assume that there is something rotten and wrong with the institution and the bodies surrounding it that alligiedly place the interest of every citizen of the state as aa priority above all else. read full story / add a comment
