Militarist symbols, language, practices and philosophies appear to have become the public face of religion in the 21st century. Fundamentalist religions and politics dance together, hand in hand, threatening all future life on this planet. read full story / add a comment

Philip Ruddock, Australian Attorney General, announced today that a broader range of people in the Australian community (non-Muslims) are to be targeted as “terrorists!” Ruddock also stated that persons who are not ‘terrorists’ need not be alarmed as his new wider classification should not concern ‘them’(?) Australian citizens are left to conclude that the determination of who exactly is a terrorist has become an arbitrary prerogative of the Attorney General and his gang of enforcers! Whatever happened to due process, innocent until PROVEN guilty? {God help that journalist who stepped on Ruddock’s toe, he will be the first to go!) It is not coincidental that the Bush regime also found due process to be an inconvenience. Ruddock’s logic and methods reek of neo-con methods, Guantanamo (Torture) Bay and Bush regime criminal methodologies have found expression in Oz. read full story / add a comment

Poetry returns to the Old Schoolhouse in Clarinbridge, where generations of schoolchildren once learned by heart the poems of Yeats, Donne and Milton. But with a difference: on Sunday, October 1st, 7pm Clarinbridge Arts Festival presents its first ever poetry slam. A poetry slam is a performance poetry competition in which the eventual winner is chosen by members of the audience. Poetry slams are hugely popular in the United States. But have only recently come to prominence here, with Galway becoming the undisputed poetry slam capital of Ireland. read full story / add a comment

Bruising some murderous scumbags ego led to an innocent man's brutal murder. The scumbags who murdered him are known as the Coca-Cola gang, (which clearly demonstrates their level of intellectual and political prowess), and the reason they killed him was because he stood up against them and their plan to subdue the entire community under their jackboot. . These are the representatives of a group who declare that they are representative of true Ireland, a 32 county republic, etc. What these peope really need is some Thorazine, in in my opinion, and perhaps some electro shock therapy. read full story / add a comment

September 16th is the anniversary of the Sabra and Shatila massacres, when Ariel Sharon and the Israeli military allowed its Lebanese surrogates to commit the mass murder of thousands of innocent Palestinian men, women and children in these two refugee camps in southern Lebanon. Given that Israel has once again laid waste to Lebanon, particularly the south, it is fitting that we mark this anniversary by demanding that Israel be finally brought to account. It has become ever clearer in recent weeks that if we are to achieve this goal it will require a worldwide civil society campaign of boycotts, divestment, and sanctions. read full story / add a comment

The conference ‘Another Europe is Possible’ being organised by Sinn Féin/GUE-NGL on Saturday next, Sept 9 in Liberty Hall will provide a welcome forum for exchange of information and debate on current developments in the EU. But one of the MEPs participating in the ‘Another Europe is Possible’ debate – Kathy Sinnott – shares the clerical-conservative views of Youth Defence and SPUC. The left should be careful not to let itself to be confused with clerical-conservatives. Beware a repeat of the 'No to Nice' campaign. read full story / add a comment
