Burning and burying are not the only options for waste materials, most of which can be reused or recycled. One of the biggest environmental problems posed by landfills is the leaching of decomposing organic material. If kitchen and garden waste were dealt with by composting, this problem would be largely resolved. If, in addition, all other reusable and recyclable materials such as paper, metal, glass and textiles were collected separately, the volume of waste in most communities would have been reduced by over 70%. read full story / add a comment

I would strongly encourage people to sign this online petition. VOTE NO VAT for charities at: www.vatcampaign.com Every year charities pay €63 million in VAT. Money that could be much better spent on the people and services that need it most. We need our VAT back – and you can help! Please take 2 minutes to sign our online petition at www.vatcampaign.com. You'll join thousands of people in Ireland who feel strongly that charity should go to those who need it most. Not the taxman. read full story / add a comment

the guy who was arrested and charged for doing a handstand at reclaim the streets had his charge dropped last thursday. because he had not been brought before the court within thirty days of being charged the judge dropped the charge (on the 31st day!). the charge can still be resurrected by the gards. it would have been an interesting case though as he was in fact doing yoga (more of a headstand than a handstand)and as far as i know yoga has yet to be criminalised in ireland. read full story / add a comment
