The contrast between the protests at the G8 in Edinburgh 2005 and in St Petersburg 2006 could not be more stark. Last year we saw New Labour government ministers turning up at Live8 protests and concerts. This year 1billion Euro has been spent on all aspect of the G8 conference including a very significant security budget.

Quite probably its just another sickening display of media manipulation.

but here is the transcript in full being quoted by Western Media today, it purportedly arose from a conversation between Bush and Blair at the G8 when they thought their microphones were off, but Putin and their Russian hosts really wanted you to know how they chat :- read full story / add a comment

ARAN is taking a big step and is willing to organize a huge rally against the cruelty on December 10th 2006, which is the official International Day For Animal Rights. All over the world events will be taking place and we want this year to be the biggest ever here in Ireland.

Right now the animals are counting on us all to speak up and free them from the pain and needless suffering that is taking place in the greyhound industry, bloodsports, circuses that use animals, animal experiments, shooting, fishing, homeless and abandoned dogs, cats and other animals, animals slaughtered for their skins, their flesh and even dogs that are chained up all over the country who are forced to live outside in all weather extremes be it in the thundering harsh winter or the excruciating summer heat that we seem to be getting, all this without food, water or shelter and there is so much more happening to animals. They desperately need us all to help them and we must because we all know this cruelty is needless and it’s in our hearts to do so. read full story / add a comment

A Chairde Gael,

Mar is eol ag go leor agaibh, thóg an PSNI ár gcara, Máire Nic an Bhaird, ar na mallaibh agus choinnigh siad thar oíche í ar an ábhar gur labhair sí ina teanga dúchais leo. Is ábhar náire é, 8 mbliain i ndiaidh síniú Comhaontú Aoine an chéasta, go bhfuil an stát go fóill i mbun feachtais cos ar bolg in éadan na Gaeilge agus ar Ghaeilgeoirí araon.

Beidh cás Máire ag dul os comhair na cúirte ar an chéadaoin ar a 10. Tá Máire ag glacadh cás i gcoinne na bpéas chomh maith agus beidh sí ag troid a cás trí mhéan na Gaeilge. Tá sé rí-thábhachtach go dtagann Gaeilgeoirí agus cairde na Gaeilge i mBéal Feirste agus níos faide anonn amach i mbun agóide, ní amháin le tacú le Máire ach le taispeáin don stát nach nglacfaidh Gaeilgeoirí leis an leatrom seo a thuilleadh. Gurbh ionann Cearta teanga agus cearta daonna.

Bígí i láthair le bhur dtoil.

A 33 year old man was sentenced to seven days in jail for wearing the T-shirt with the words "Never mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols" at a court in Bray on Friday July, 16, 2006. The judge Murrough Connellan refused an attempt by the man to purge his "contempt" after his partner Lorraine Fitzpatrick purchased a plain blue T-shirt. national / environment / press release Monday July 17, 2006 11:29 by Friends of the Earth   text 1 comment (last - monday july 17, 2006 21:20)
Friends of the Earth has described the government's climate pollution plan, published on Friday, as " the ultimate stealth tax". It will cost the public at least €2 million a week according to the environmental justice group. The EPA plan estimates the rise in Ireland's greenhouse gas emissions will be twice what is allowed under the Kyoto Protocol from 2008 to 2012 or, put another way, an average of 7 million tonnes of excess pollution a year[1]. Every tonne of this overshoot will have to be offset by an emissions permit. The government is assuming permit prices will remain steady at around €15 a tonne giving a total cost to Ireland of €105 million a year or €2 million a week for five years[2].

Commenting on how government inaction will cost the consumer and the taxpayer, Friends of the Earth Director, Oisin Coghlan said:
"This is the ultimate stealth tax. The government has replaced the polluter-pays principle with the public-pays principle. On the one hand industry will get their pollution permits for free but raise consumer prices to reflect their value [3]. On the other hand the government will use taxpayers' money to buy permits for the rest of our Kyoto overshoot. It's a double whammy for the average household." read full story / add a comment

Today's Sunday Independent carries two advertisements seeking to recruit Irish people to work as Sales Representatives for a company, apparently called 'Exchange', whose sole function is to sell cars, motorbikes and utility vehicles to US military personnel serving abroad. These particular adverts are looking for people to service the US war machine in Iraq, Kuwait and the Middle East in general. Those employed will be based on US military facilities in Iraq and Kuwait.

Prospective applicants are directed to a website, which carries the company motto:

'The only overseas car-buying program created by the [US] military, for the military'.

It is a disgrace that an Irish newspaper is carrying advertisements recruiting civilians to service the US war machine in Iraq. Those who consider applying should bear in mind that they will be viewed in Iraq as servants of the US military and their lives will be at grave risk. Holding Irish citizenship will make no difference. read full story / add a comment

Gone are the days of a fair fight and a ‘just’ war – whatever that insane expression is supposed to mean – today we have the actions of the ‘might is right’ ideology of barbarism. This ‘new’ primitivism is evident in the actions of Zionist Israel and the Zionist influenced USA. Today’s wars are the most inglorious wars in human history. How proud we should be of our achievements when we allow idiotic differences and greed to escalate into bloodshed. What a ‘noble’ race of ‘civilised’ humans we are! View this planet as a visitor and be thoroughly appalled. read full story / add a comment
