Britain is pushing for maximum liberalisation.
Germany has already made labour market and social security changes - with last years cuts in jobless benefits, incentives for low-wage jobs and extra health charges.
The French plan to reform the social security system this Autumn but fear fierce public opposition.

When searching the internet for for Irish mobile phone "location based services", I perchanced upon a webpage on the "02" site offering spying services to employers (http://web.o2.ie/portal/business/enhanced_business_solutions/location_based_services/). Its a shame too that the only function they have found for this technology is for surveillance. read full story / add a comment

Young Fine Gael President William Lavelle has today asked CIE to introduce a new €5 national travel card for students of 3rd level colleges outside Dublin.

Lavelle states: "CIE are ripping-off students of 3rd level colleges outside Dublin by obliging them, when buying a national travel card, to pay an extra €10 for a discount card for Dublin Bus & Rail services, even though they may never use Dublin Bus or Rail. read full story / add a comment

“What is the use of rainbow week” is the title of a tread on the UCD student union message board. Followed by a comment that says “I don't know if the scrawls on the posters were homophobic - sounds like it was people who think it's funny to slag gay people, not necessarily homophobes!” Reading this makes me think of this Le Tigre song Tres bien and the line “because they will try to convince us that we have arrived, that we are already there, that it has happened. Because we need to live in the place where we are truly alive, present, safe and accounted for.” read full story / add a comment
