As of a couple of hours ago users of the english Al Jazeera website have been re-directed to a site with an American flag with the words "Let freedom ring" emblazoned across it. The Arabic site users are being directed to a porn site. Jihad Ali Ballout, a spokesman for al-Jazeera described the attack as "a frontal, vicious attack on freedom of the press" and urged anyone with information about the hackers to contact authorities. He says that it will be a few weeks before the english language service will be able to resume. read full story / add a comment

In an action to highlight the connections between our economy hooked on oil & the war in Iraq the $Hell Petrol station on Great Victoria Street (the most central city petrol station) was blockaded for one and a half hours by 40 people during ‘rush/(snail) hour traffic. 8 activists using lock-ons blockaded the two entrances to the station as a ‘No Blood for Oil’ banner was dropped from the forecourt canopy. read full story / add a comment

We in the peace house have had to put up with a lot. at first it was just unsocial hours outdoors planespotting, then the Airport police and a few Gardai questions. Establishment hacks and others trying to discredit us as liars, anti-american, or trouble makers. Local politicians eager to appear moral and responsible. We weathered it all. Lately we've become the target of a determined Garda campaign of harrassment and intimidation. It was not covert surveillance (and I'd know a fair bit about that topic) it was obvious, intended not only to harrass us, but to let out neighbours in Shannon see that we were being watched. But the brave guardians of order (not law, but the pecking order) decided to go one better. not content with harassing anyone who visits the house, they started putting pressure on our landlady. read full story / add a comment

The Scots Dragoons used depleted uranium shells today in their rout of Iraqi tanks, destroying 14 of them as well as much of their own genetics, and generations of Iraqi kids who'll run around these areas in years to come wondering why they're covered in lesions that don't hurt. This is one of the most overlooked and horrendous aspects of this war. People have suggested that the US may use battle field nuclear weapons, but they waged a low level nuclear war the first time round, and now they're at it again, well its the UK in this particular instance. But is it better than sending it to Sellafield, any NIMBYs out there who want to field this one?? http://breaking.examiner.ie/2003/03/27/story93335.html read full story / add a comment

The 3 animals that murdered Garda Jerry McCabe while robbing a post office in Co. Limerick will not be released. Anyone that believes in justice in Ireland will be happy at this news. Of course, I expect the usual crowd of brain-dead Sinn Fein/Indymedia types to be angry at this. It'll make for such funny reading. read full story / add a comment
