Mayday Court Appearances – The Word from no. 46 – the Security Cut 15th September 2004 It was with a certain amount of reluctance that I dragged my snot filled unemployed head from the pillow in order to cycle down to the courts to watch the massive steam roller of justice crank into slow action. I got there early, the clock on the wall read 10.15 and only myself and four worried looking mothers sat in the public gallery. On the way into court 46 I noticed young cops with manila folders tucked under their arms swap jokes and get their stories straight for the judge later on. This appears to me to be the way the State prepares it's cases. read full story / add a comment

There will be a lunchtime demonstration at the Israeli Embassy, Ballsbridge (opposite Jury's), Dublin 4, on Thursday 16th between 1 and 2pm, to commemorate the 1982 massacre of Palestinian refugees at Sabra and Chatila camps by Lebanese militia allied and supported by Israel. The military incursion into Lebanon was planned and led by then Israeli Defence Minister Ariel Sharon, who was subsequently found responsible for the massacre. The USA vetoed six separate United Nations resolutions between 1982 and 1983 condemning Israel's invasion of Lebanon. In 2002 the USA referred to Ariel Sharon as "a man of peace". Please spread the word, and bring banners, flags etc. Thank you, IPSC Dublin group read full story / add a comment

The end of the Civil Service pay dispute has been a bitter pill for NIPSA members to swallow. NIPSA members have fought the governments for eight months firmly believing that our campaign was about fundamental issues. As the dispute developed that view was confirmed. This dispute has been a struggle for the right to be properly recognised as a trade union including the right to negotiate on behalf of members, it was a struggle for the end of low pay in the Civil Service and it was the a struggle to end pay inequality. Unfortunately in the final settlement none of these issues was properly addressed. read full story / add a comment

It is strange that while it is often said that the purchase of a house is the biggest decision which most people have to make, newspapers make no claims that property reviews are objective. Nevertheless, they are presented under journalists' bylines, sometimes following a site visit, but the resultant copy does not differ from what an estate agent would produce. read full story / add a comment
