As the Setanta Cup completes the group stages, some managers speak their mind about this cross border competition. Northern Ireland manager Lawrie Sanchez said: "Football has the power to build bridges, promote respect and bring communities together. We believe supporters are the lifeblood of the game and that sectarianism and racism should have no place in football or society. The Setanta cup is going some way to building bridges" read full story / add a comment

600 litters of dogs on average are advertised weekly in newspapers, periodicals and free adds papers here in Ireland. 400 DOGS FOR SALE adds appear on average in one free adds paper alone, many of these for up to nine different breeds, the majority of which are being raised on PUPPY FARMS here in Ireland. Other adds appear on notice boards everywhere with photos of cute pups, obviously a little money spinner for people who breed their animals at home. Many people who buy a pup do not realise they are causing untold misery for the pups mother who lives her life virtually 'in pup' and many report buying the saddest, sickest pup just to save it.In reality this easy money prompts the breeder to continue. read full story / add a comment

The Liberal-Conservative Danish government refuses to give the Socialist People’s Party access to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ registers of correspondence concerning the controversial cartoons of the Prophet, which provoked demonstrations and attacks on Danish embassies in the Middle East in January. The chairman of the Socialist People’s Party, Villy Sřvndal, accuses the government of "deliberately trying to keep secret things they don’t want people to know about” - particularly further documentation for the fact that Muslim organisations and ambassadors warned the government in advance that things could turn nasty if it did not engage in diplomatic initiatives to distance itself from the cartoons. The government will now have to explain its stance in the Foreign Policy Committee. Please read my translation of a recent article from the website of the Danish daily paper, Politiken. read full story / add a comment

Imagine 40% of Ireland unable to heat their homes, or petrol €5 a liter at the pump, and cheap air travel a thing of the past. The world as we know it is moving from an era of cheap abundant energy to an era of scare hard to get, expensive energy. Ireland is now the 7th most dependent oil economy in the world and with no security of supply what kind of future do we face? read full story / add a comment

Between the years 1652 - 1659, English Troops murdered over 500,000 Irish men, women and children. Another 100,000 (possibly as high as 250,000) Irish people, mainly children were sold into slavery to places like Barbados and the Caribbean. There was about 30,000 Irish soldiers sent into exile as wild Geese and another 50,000 became known as Toraidhe (Tory's) who fought a guerrilla war against English colonialism. The English also forced over 500,000 Irish from their homes into the barren regions of Connacht and Clare as part of the Plantations and Extermination project. But in the midst of all this chaos, the Irish fought bravely against English tyranny and killed possibly as high as 100,000 English soldiers and Colonists in the period. Republican Sinn Fein in Cork is invited to lay a reed to show the continuity of the fight against English occupation then and today. read full story / add a comment

The myth of the five roads to Tara comes alive and is found to be the truth and a treasure is returned to the Celtic World. The centre of Tara is found in the triangle where these five roads meet. The attached image shows the five ancient roads to Tara in red. The line of red dots on the photograph shows where there used to be a road to the east coast. This road to the east coast is clearly shown on the 1830's map inset in the circle - the map has been turned to align with the photo - see http://www.druidschool.com/site/1030100/page/809109 read full story / add a comment

The film opens as a platoon of US Special Forces is dropped off by Chinook into the snowbound Tora Bora mountains in a sweep for Taliban and Al-Qaida fighters. Instead they come across the horribly mutilated corpses of the tribesmen and jihadists apparently torn to shreds by some kind of beast. The platoon proceeds to a cave where they discover a vast network of tunnels which house an Al-Qaida HQ but again find evidence of a fierce struggle and blood splattered human remains. A survivor is found but he babbles nothing but verses from the Koran before leaping to his death over percipe. Needless to say the platoon are themselves ripped apart in appallingly graphic attacks by a legion of Yetis. The dying Lieutenant calls in an airstrike and the sole surviving Yeti is captured and taken to Kabul. Roll opening credits. read full story / add a comment

Please read the story below, this is not a normal petition appeal. For a start it has more than a couple of lines of text, it tells a story. The Story of a brave Secular Kurdish author who has written a book which questions the status of women in islam and according to the text of the Quran. the book is entitled “Sex, Sharia and Women in the History of Islam". The Kurdishish Islamofascists are now trying to bring about his death. You can a little thing to save him: read the plea below and sign the petition. This is a petition that WILL go to the Kurdish Government; the Organisation of Women’s Freedom in Iraq will ensure this. pat c read full story / add a comment

Blair’s speech in Oz parliament today was notable for its familiarity – nothing new, same ol’ same ol’ shite. Wait! I think there was something that may have been a Freudian slip in reverse, Blair pleaded with a crumbling support base not to ostracise the yanks as they may “lift their drawbridge” (what a laugh). In order to survive, the voracious beast of Capitalism MUST feed off weaker nations, destroy the environment, wreak havoc and wage war to sustain its (military) economy. The world needs America like it needs a hole in the head; by all means Tony, let the yanks implode on themselves; allow the blood-sucking star-spangled-fangs to sink into its own neck; it would be a most entertaining spectacle. read full story / add a comment |
