Calling all anti-capitalists!! A new film entitled "Capitalism and Other Kids' Stuff", which argues the anti-capitalist case in simple language can be viewed free at www.socialist-tv.com The film, made by 4 members of The Socialist Party, is 49 minutes in duration and, beginning with a look at how we treat our children, explains in non-jargonised terms, the insanity of a system that places profit before human need. Please note, this is not a Party political broadcast, just a sane look at an insane world that is very much crying out for real change. read full story / add a comment

An openly gay candidate of Partito della Rifondazione Comunista wins in southern Italy, in regional elections that resulted in 11 victories for the center-left coalition, which now controls 16 of Italy’s 20 regions. Nichi Vendola's victory decisively refutes the American dogma that militants on the left, choosing radicals, can't attract votes at the center and lose to the right -- the dogma that the Democrats in America and the center-left in Italy promulgate, even though it has been often contradicted, as in the moderate John Kerry's loss -- as Vendola won 100,000 more votes than the center-left coalition. read full story / add a comment

On Tuesday 12 April at 3pm in Th.R, UCD will host a talk by Dr Jose Ramos-Horta, Foreign Minister of East Timor. The title is 'US and UN - the uni-polar world, uni-lateralism or multi-lateralism?' Dr Ramos-Horta is the first Foreign Minister of East Timor, following their independence from Indonesian occupation. East Timor became an independent state in May 2002. Dr Ramos-Horta, along with Rev. Carlos Ximenes Belo, the Roman Catholic bishop of East Timor, won the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize. Dr. Ramos-Horta, along with (now President) Xanana Gusmao and Bishop Belo, was prominent in the international campaign to draw attention to Indonesian human rights abuses in Timor and to secure its independence. The Nobel Peace Prize was a recognition of his hard work and dedication to this cause. read full story / add a comment

Mission Against Terror tells the story of five men dispatched by the Cuban government to 'observe, monitor and report on the workings of the (Anti-Cuban) terrorist network in the United States' - a network responsible for the deaths of almost 3,500 Cubans in a covert terrorist war against Cuba. Having compiled evidence of terrorist plots by Miami-Cubans, which was sent to the FBI, the men found themselves arrested rather than the terrorists they tracked. The men were placed in solitary confinement for 17 months and subsequently tried in Miami. They were sentenced to four life sentences and 75 years collectively. The Free the Miami Five Campaign was established in Ireland to highlight the injustices of the case brought against the men, the human rights abuses that have occurred during their detention and to call for their release. We are delighted that the two film makers will be in Ireland to present their film and answer questions from the audience in each venue. . read full story / add a comment |
