The growth associated with the so-called Celtic Tiger has vaulted Southern Ireland into the economic lead in the list of small states in the EU. But the distribution of the fruits of this growth has been mainly decided by the bosses and their parties. However the electrical workers in Southern Ireland have now voted and in fact already taken action in the last weeks to say no to this bosses share up. Victory for the electrical workers could open the door for a much wider struggle. The electrical workers must get full support. read full story / add a comment

A BBC Spotlight Special is to be screened tonight which investigates allegations of collusion in the Armagh, Tyrone and border counties in the 1970s. The programme will focus on the activities of a group of loyalists, and members of the RUC and UDR, who operated from a farmhouse in Glenanne, Co Armagh.

The activities of the group, some of whom were involved in the Dublin and Monaghan bombings, has been the subject of research within the PFC for the past four years. Earlier this year the PFC made a written and oral submission to a Joint Committee of the Oireachtas, the Irish Parliament, which held hearings into the Barron report into the Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

It is believed that a number of key members of the gang will be named in the programme.

See www.serve.com/pfc for background on the Barron Report and the PFC submissions.

The US Propaganda machine, realising that the illegal war on Iraq has proved to be the nemesis they have so long avoided, are now desperate to shift blame.
and in the process prepare a "do Iran" situation. I would like to remind you that Iranians were invited to "do Iraq" by the US machine in December of 2002, which is the point at which I believe "the war" began if only in "covert mode". read full story / add a comment

An Israeli army spokesman said 12 unarmed Palestinian civilians were killed during the course of Operation Rainbow, including seven killed by a tank shell during a demonstration in the Tel Sultan neighborhood last Wednesday.

"We did not use the tank shell in order to disperse the demonstration but rather to create a boom effect," Zakai said. "To the best of my professional judgement, the tank commander's decision was correct." read full story / add a comment

The social and political turmoil that has rocked Venezuela since the election of the radical left-populist former army officer, Hugo Chávez, as President, in 1999, has now entered a new and critical phase. Chávez has now called for the arming of the population and the setting up of a "people’s militia". He has also directly attacked capitalism for the first time and declared that the "Bolivarian revolution has entered a new anti-imperialist phase". read full story / add a comment

An Irish Times opinion poll (published on Monday May 24) on the citizenship referendum is good news for the Government – it shows a majority of more than two to one (54% versus 24%, 22% undecided) – in favour of the amendment drafted by Minister for Justice Michael McDowell. The poll was conducted as the “Chen Case” hit the headlines.

Were the people who participated in last week’s opinion poll influenced by the mainstream media coverage? That seems likely. read full story / add a comment
