A view as to why Dubliners should support our current transport service. From my ongoing research into people's opinions of Dublin Bus, I have found that the vast majority of people do not realise the implications and changes that privatisation will bring. The introduction of the private sector into the public transport sector will not improve the commuters long term interests but will destroy a company that has developed into a profitable and publicly orientated transport service set in the interests of all the people.People say " bring on the private operators but they fail to realise that this ill thought opinion will bring with it, higher fare prices, less frequent service on non-profitable routes and the cancelling of routes that make no sense from a business aspect to maintain in use. read full story / add a comment

Despite being one of the most important northern elections for some time, the absence of real discussion on Indymedia about the forthcoming Assembly elections has been quite amazing. Has there been any feature pieces on the election during the last number of weeks? Appart from a couple of SF, SP and SEA postings has there been any substantial discussion or debate? Would a southern election equally fail to generate much coverage? Is there a partitionist mindset among regular Indymedia contributors?

In order to provoke a debate about the elections, likley outcomes and consequences for the peace process I have posted an interesting article by BBC correspondent Mark Davenport. While his views are often way off the mark, this piece has much merit.

Let the debate flow... read full story / add a comment

They love 'Freedom' in Miami - they 'really' do . .
Here are some reports from the streets there. Much more at the related 'ftaaimc' link. Makes a mockery of Bush's statement about the protests in the UK during his visit - 'Isn't freedom wonderful'. And the Black Bloc . . . what can you say? . . . It's gone beyond a joke . . . at this rate even the Irish police will cop on to this tactic sooner or later read full story / add a comment
