Supporters of the Adefowoju and the Falode families are planning a demonstration on Wednesday at Stormont calling for the Northern Ireland Assembly to help stop the deportations.

Comfort Adefowoju and her four children, and Ronke Falode and her three sons, are in Yarl's Wood detention centre in Bedfordshire and have been told they could be deported at any time. They were arrested at their homes in November.

Both families face an uncertain & dangeroud future if they are deported to Nigeria. read full story / add a comment

Here is a report on the continuing detention of womens rights activists in Iran and a call for action on their behalf.

Human rights groups and journalists across the globe have condemned the arrest of cyber feminists, Jelve Javaheri and Maryam Hossienkhah in Iran earlier this month. Both of these women are activists and members of the One Million Signatures campaign. In early December classroom assistants in the North returned to work after a series of strike actions which had gone on since September. This action by the classroom assistants showed in stark form the two faces of the trade union movement. On the one hand there was the tremendous bravery and solidarity shown by the workers themselves in standing up to attempts to bully and harass them back to work. On the other hand was the duplicitousness and skulduggery of some trade union bureaucrats who not alone did their best to undermine the dispute but actively worked with management and politicians to betray the workers. read full story / add a comment

Irish, Basque and Catalan protesters picketed outside the GPO on 8th December to protest repression by Spanish authorities of Basque left-separatists. On the 7th, three traditional Basque musicians performing at the Long Note debut in Dublin were applauded when they stated that theirs was the oldest living language in Europe and their culture one of the oldest and that their people would continue to fight for their political and civil rights. read full story / add a comment

Protest activity: Despite the ban on strikes, workers protests and other work stoppages are a daily occurrence throughout Iranian enterprises. They are often repressed. Most of these protests concern either low wages, the non-payment of wages, lay-offs or factory closures. The minimum wage set by the government is $US 140 per month, while the official poverty line stands at $US 300.
