I wish to express my serious concerns regarding the recent publication by the H.S.E. of the Hynes report on the death of Peter McKenna and related matters. Peter McKenna was 60 years old and had Down syndrome. He lived in St Michael's House until he was moved against the family's wishes to Leas Cross Nursing Home where he died. read full story / add a comment

A FROG exporter in Meath is closing down his business following an attack on his property by the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), a violent international group. Acid was thrown on the businessman’s car and slogans daubed on buildings located around his farm. Denis McCarthy, who runs the Kells-based Frog Farm, which is Europe’s sole exporter of common frogs for medical research, had originally told the group he would retire at the end of this month, in order to forestall further attacks. read full story / add a comment

…from The Times (UK): “Colonel Barry Johnson, the United States military spokesman in Baghdad, said the US military is reviewing the video ‘to see if an investigation is warranted and whether to open one’. Colonel Johnson, added: ‘They [the US military] are assessing it to determine if there is any evidence that warrants an investigation. The first indication I had of this case was some days ago.’ Foreign contractors are required to obey the same rules as the military in warning civilian motorists not to approach convoys by waving them away and firing warning shots. Part of the video footage appears to show a civilian car accelerating towards the convoy vehicle.” read full story / add a comment

Conference on EU Services Directive (December 6, Dublin) I am posting this on Indymedia because I am opposed to The EU Services Directive - not as a supporter of Proinsias De Rossa. In light of the Irish Ferries developments this conference is indeed timely. However the time thats its being held at will prevent many from attending. If you are a genuine activist and have disagreements past or present with Labour then please do not derail this event listing by raising off topic subjecs, the trolls will do that anyway. Discuss the Directive and attend the conference if you can and suggest concrete ways in which ordinary trade unionists can oppose the neo liberals. pat c ******************************* Labour MEP Proinsias De Rossa is holding a conference on the proposed EU Services Directive on the morning of Tuesday, 6th December, 9am - 1pm, at the European Parliament offices at Molesworth St. Dublin 2. read full story / add a comment
