Tariq Ali

Tariq has been a significant figure in progressive politics since the
sixties. His website is
http://www.tariqali.org/
I found some difficulty getting into this, so bear with it.

He is visiting Dublin on Feb 15 for a PANA sponsored meeting. The meeting
will be in the ATGWU hall in Middle Abbey Street. The meeting will start
at 7-00 sharp (the hall closes at 9-30).
If any media people wish to interview Tariq there is a window of
opportunity before the meeting. (Please contact Roger Cole on this.)I will
pass on any requests to Roger.
It is critical that this meeting is successful. Dublin is doing well in
attracting alternative voices such as Noam Chomsky and Tariq.

Please pass the word along to any of your contact lists.

The case resumes at eleven o clock ,in court
eleven on Tuesday morning.
The response to Meath County Council, the
NRA and the State continues.
Thank you to the campaigners, activists,
heritage group reps and historians who
have sat in court with us everyday.
The lack of opposition spokespeople is noted.
The case has been long and sometimes
the risible claims of the oppostion
have entertained everyone, I think the
intention was to bore us to death ,in one
particular case.
I have not been able to report here due
to constant interference with my line and the
loss of my regular e-mail address at
[email protected]
If you can attend , please do.
A meeting to discuss the legal case and
other actions will be posted soon.

"F4J leader Matt O'Connor announced last night (January 17) that he was suspending the operations of the group pending enquiries into allegations contained on the cover of this mornings Sun Newspaper that 'extremist sympathisers' associated with the group had planned to kidnap the Prime Minister's Son, Leo Blair.

F4J say they condemn any such action unreservedly and that the group is increasingly having it's name 'hijacked' by a growing number of militant extremists and that it would seriously consider the long term viability of the campaign.

The group say that ex members have reportedly been in contact with the Anti-Terrorist Unit SO13 from Scotland Yard who said that activists would be shot on sight if engaged in any protests in Westminster."

After over 60 years since their theft, or 30 years since the death of the thief, or a little over a year since the court order to return them, 500 boxes of Spanish Civil War archives were transferred under armed guard in the last 24 hours from Salamanca via Madrid en route to Barcelona.

An incident which did not occur without a near treasonous attempt to impede the lawful commands of the Spanish state by local authorities in Salamanca, Castille and Leon. The polemic and division in current Spanish society which focuses on the democratic wishes of the Catalans and their proposed "estatut"is part and parcel of what occured in Salamanca.

The Finglas Anti Bin Tax Campaign has swung into action as part of a city wide, coordinated, response to Dublin City Council’s threat to impose non-collection throughout the city. Despite the Council’s propaganda only a tiny number of households have had non-collection imposed on them so far and no area where there is a strong local anti bin tax campaign has been affected. read full story / add a comment

Chomsky's talk was attended by 2000 people, with thousands more being refused tickets. His talk has caused a stir in the mass media this morning as he named US military and intelligence stopovers in Shannon as war crimes and backed calls for demonstrations in Ireland and elsewhere against the occupation of Iraq on M18.
