The breach of the anti-AfD firewall has exploded German politics as mass protests erupt and every party rules out ruling with everybody else. If a Government is to emerge something will have to give, says Eugyppius.

An interesting article about the genuine and well founded fears of the Christian community in Syria. The possibility of a sectarian bloodbath is all too real. Just look at the example of Iraq. Also look at the Irish example: when loyalist demagogues in the six counties were rousing up Protestants against Catholics they also made sure that Protestant Socialists suffered in the pogroms. The same threat hangs over Syria.

This is not a statement of support for Assad rather a reminder that if Assad goes and power falls into the hands of fundamentalists there is a risk of sectarian butchery. read full story / add a comment

Printing money, currency devaluation, changing interest rates, debt accumulation and public works involve tinkering with circulation.Manipulating the circulation of capital constitutes a superficial remedy that,in the long run, solve nothing while making things worse. The appearances of capitalism (such as the circulation of capital) are mistaken for its essence. The market disguises the real nature of capitalism read full story / add a comment

A public meeting has been called by residents and community activists who are unhappy about the household charge which will be introduced in January as part of the government’s austerity measures.

The meeting, which will take place on Monday 3rd October at 7pm in Westside Community Centre is open to all and is aimed specifically at residents of Westside, Shantalla and Newcastle.

The meeting is one of hundreds of similar gatherings that are taking place throughout the country. The performance of The National Chamber Choir of Ireland in Carlingford yesterday afternoon was an object lesson in the calm interpretation of words and music combined. A very stimulating concert free of musical bombast. And very very musical. Admission was €8 and the program which was essential reading cost €3. The theme of the recital was Autumn Landscapes. It involved roads, fields, clouds, lost love, time passing, death, lost youth. Even so it proved one thing at least. Brahms still lives. read full story / add a comment
