The people of the free world have not forgotten half of America’s population oppose the ultra-right-wing regime of Bush. A similar situation occurred in Nazi Germany with the rise of another madman to power. The population became polarised; however, the half with the conscience was swept along with the fanatics to the ruin of all. Failure to act against the regime in the early stages resulted in a greater calamity for the entire nation. Let it not happen again! read full story / add a comment

Dear friends,

We would like to thank you for all your support for the Street Seen initiative taken recently to collect sleeping bags and warm clothes for homeless persons. The initiative itself was helped in part also by the large media coverage we got from the newspapers - radio and television as so to publicise and cover it. Although Street Seen is only on its second issue its print is 10,000 copies. The publication affords space to those who may not find space afforded elsewhere for their stories, poetry etc as well as providing an avenue for more established writers to put out their message. read full story / add a comment

Bethlehem today is little more than a sleepy town. But not the same sleepy town it was 2000 years ago. After 4 years of military incursions, oppression, and violence, the town remains beseiged. Frequently the town is put under “curfew”, meaning that the residents are not allowed to leave their homes. More frequently, roadblocks and checkpoints are placed in and around the town to make travel to and from Bethlehem nearly impossible. Under such conditions, it is not surprising that the town expects very few tourists and visitors during the holidays. Rather than being greeted on the street, we are asked by young children in Bethlehem for help in finding missing relatives, taken by Israeli forces. Refugee camps have sadly become permanent fixtures, with United Nations relief replacing Christmas spirit. Army green seems to be the color of this Christmas season, with coils of barbed wire trimming the roads and alleys. read full story / add a comment

Barcelona's offer to host a peace conference in 2005 has been rejected by Ariel Sharon. This marks a rejection of the Sharon administration of centring peace efforts on the Barcelona process, which the EMP (The Euro-Mediterranean Partnership) is usually known by.
The EMP reflects the reality of Israel's geographical location as a state of the Mediterranean and one who trades with the EU.
It also reflects the reality of Israel's demographic origins, Isreal is a European nation, the vast majority of whom are descended from European jews. The dictatorship of Libya is not participating in the EMP.

Today Tony Blair on a visit to the region has proposed holding a conference in London in 2005.
This supports the joint US/UK strategy as announced at the Bush & Blair press conference which followed the death of Arafat at Percy hospital in Paris and his burial ceremony in Cairo. read full story / add a comment

he British arms firm BAE yesterday refused to comment on documents showing mysterious payments linked to UK weapons purchases by General Augusto Pinochet.

Sums of up to $5m (£2.57m) are listed in Gen Pinochet's bank records obtained by a Senate investigation in Washington.

Some appear to be linked to arms purchases he agreed to make from Royal Ordnance, a BAE subsidiary.
