'Eco-anxiety' affects 78% of children under 12, a crisis that teachers say they are unable to cope with, new polling by Greenpeace has found. The solution? More ruthless exposure of children to alarmist material.

Many Irish people will have missed the pomp & ceremony, smells and bells which launched Europe's latest lowcost airline on ¨Monday. Despite its obvious competition with two of our most cherished little earners & institutions. The Holy See is offering cheap flights from Rome to Lourdes which I need not tell you will surely undermine both Ryanair and Knock. The Vatican is promoting the service as an opportunity for the faithful to maintain a proper atmosphere conducive to such religious devotion and prevent their journey falling into some Chaucer like tale. Needless to say unlike Ryanair they won't be charging wheelchair users any extra money either. But already it has run into TERROR problems.

The conviction of Michael McKevitt was far from the finest hour of our judicial system. The latest revelations leaves no doubt that he was unfairly tried and convicted through the pages of the print media long before he appeared in Court. Under such circumstances, the media and Mr Mooney in particular must have the moral courage to undo the damage done in this case. read full story / add a comment

kerry / anti-capitalism / event notice Monday August 27, 2007 18:49 by sean moraghan
Instead of a greedy Thatcherite-style capitalism, there was supposed to be a more caring society, with fewer class divisions.

But it was always a myth. The Celtic tiger produced the second highest level of poverty in the developed world and fell down on the Human Development Index complied by a United Nations agency.

The real model for the Celtic tiger was the deregulated gung-ho capitalism of the United States, where few taxes are demanded of the rich and workers are asked to put up with low wages and run-down public services.

Come along to an informal talk on "Class and the Celtic Tiger" by sociologist Kieran Allen.

All Welcome to the basement bar of the Imperial Hotel, Tralee!

The Sunday newspapers have shown great coverage of the Labour Party leadership contest after the resignation of Pat Rabbitte. However, for most left-wing activists the clash between Socialist Party's Joe Higgins and the Socialist Workers' Party's Richard Boyd-Barrett is very interesting. RBB cited the Party's "socialist roots" while Higgins said Labour are not a working class party and will not turn socialist. read full story / add a comment

In this very interesting report from Montreal Canada, we get a glimpse at some of the undercover activities of the state and police forces which are there to protect capitalism. What is reported is that an undercover cop was caught on video throwing rocks at a protest. Clearly the state and police are working hard all the time to manipulate public opinion to believe that protesters always mean violence and are associated with criminals. When they don't get the result that they want, they then go out and make it so. This is not unique to just the place where this report comes from. read full story / add a comment
