Given the current escalation of Israeli depredations in Gaza and the daily US bombings of Falluja, it is interesting to examine Amnesty International's (AI) statements on the situation. AI is widely viewed as an authority on human rights issues, and thus it is of interest to analyze its output on these recent events. Careful scrutiny of AI's record reveals that, its typical response to the daily obscene deeds by either Israeli or US armies is a few barely audible ruminations with an occasional lame rebuke. The impotence of these responses raises many questions. read full story / add a comment

Below is a proposed text for a 'No Platform Policy' for TCD. We will be circulating copies to the TCDSU and amongst the political parties over the next few days and are expecting their full support.

Also, we are confident that those who stood up to the fascists in UCD will support our campaign to deny the extremists the oppurtunity to use TCD as a recruiting ground for hate. read full story / add a comment

With all the fuss over Justin Barrett not speaking at U.C.D. and then speaking at N.U.I.G. I decided to have a look at some of the websites frequented by fascists in Ireland and see what type of people hung out there. In one thread on the Irish Nationalist website someone identified themselves as having worked on Justin Barrett’s election campaign, another as a justin Barrett supporter and someone else gave the user name of the nazi skinhead who got into a fight at the back of the lecture theatre when Barrett tried to speak in U.C.D. By going through these sites i hoped to learn more about the kind of people who support Justin Barrett and the type of people who will turn out and watch him speak. read full story / add a comment

A group of us in Cork decided to do something to mark international anti-mcdonalds day, and so the day before we collected food to be thrown out from local supermarkets and bakeries. The next morning we met up at a friends house and struggled with our cooking skills, and managed to whip up sum vegetable soup, and vegi burgers and hummous, which we then distributed with with bread and fruit outside our local mcdonalds. read full story / add a comment
