The Gardai are placing a lot of emphasis on speed, as if speed was the complete cause of our road fatalities. The Germans are showing us that speed is not the only problem associated with road fatalities. The problem we now have is that the Gardai are alienating themselves from law abiding people because they are being forced to penalise people because of regulations that the Gardai themselves cannot uphold. The vast majority of our people want to abide by the law but are being forced into direct conflict with the gardai because our road regulation have not been thought out properly. Help the Gardai fight crime.......would you be prepared to telephone if you were suddenly presented in the post with a speed fine for a road that could handle a Jumbo 747? read full story / add a comment

"Oil is running out, climate change is now recognised as a serious problem and the price of energy is rising. A pro-nuclear decision by the British government will impact on Ireland and our energy policies, while we ourselves need to establish a secure energy supply for the future. We must now hold the debate - is nuclear power part of our future?"

This and the following extracts are taken from http://www.iei.ie/Conference06/Ple1.htm
Engineers Ireland web site, this organization will be hosting a conference in Dublin to discuss the future (if any at this rate) of energy consumption and future sustainability in Ireland. While choosing to ignore the corrib issue, wind or hydro resources and the inherent failure of public transport to meet the needs of individuals and instead choosing to consider nuclear as a primary option for the future.

You can register to attend this conference at their website, its worth remembering that the primary byproduct of nuclear can be found in the form of depleted uranium in war torn venues across the globe in locations such as Iraq, Afghanistan and Iraq again... read full story / add a comment

NIPSA’s right wing is attempting to re write history and is deliberately distorting the facts of the Civil Service pay dispute. This can only have the effect of compounding any negative outcome of the dispute with disorientation and demoralisation of NIPSA members. TFC is fighting against this by initiating an open and honest discussion about all aspects of the dispute. In this way a stronger united union can be built. This is intended as a contribution to a wider discussion amongst TFC activist and NIPSA members. read full story / add a comment

Spc. Casey Sheehan transited through Shannon, thanks to Bush & Bertie, on his way to his death. His brief time here confirmed for Casey his love for Ireland. What a shame and disgrace on us that we were complicit in his death! Today is a time to remember Casey, his family, and especially his mother, Cindy Sheehan, who has raised to US and perhaps global peace movement from, if not the grave, then certainly ennui. She deserves our thanks and our sympathies on this day. read full story / add a comment
