In 1957 an american housewife, 15 years after graduation and into a young marriage with young children sent all her female fellow graduates a list of questions. The "american housewife" had been born Bettye Naomi Goldstein, and at marriage became Betty Freidan. She was born on February 4th 1921 and died exactly 85 years later on February 4th 2006. "some worry we'll lose our feminity if we become equality...since femininity is being a woman and feeling good about it, clearly the better you feel about yourself as a person, the better you feel about being a woman. And it seems to me the better you are able to love a man" RIP = rest in peace ________________________________________________ read full story / add a comment

The recent religious furore over certain (cartoon) publications in the secular press unambiguously identifies ‘religion’ as little more than cheap politics; or put in simpler more accurate terms; religion is the politics of the mentally deficient. Consider the possibility of an infinite creator/God and the arrogance of those who actually think or imagine they or any other finite being could possibly pollute, insult or deface that God. A characteristic of Godhead is IMMUTABILITY! Rationalists would refer to the basic logic of the inability of the finite to apprehend the infinite (God); the two states are mutually exclusive. But it is obvious that ‘God’ is as far removed from the present issue as day is from night. read full story / add a comment ![]()

After months of searching, followed by cleaning, scrubbing, sanding, painting and varnishing, the Seomra Spraoi (room of fun) collective has begun to open its doors. The collective took a space some months back in a prime city centre location, Middle Abbey Street, and soon began to have small meetings, events and gatherings there. At present, the centre is open 2-6pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Anyone can drop in and view the forgotten zine library and the Bad Books library, have a cup of tea or simply relax and spend some time finding out more about what’s going on in Dublin. If you would like to use the space anytime contact Seomra Spraoi via the website, mailing list or email: [email protected] ALL EVENTS CANCELLED DUE TO UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANCES read full story / add a comment ![]()
