Historian and peace activist Rosalie Riegle, from Michigan, USA, discusses her latest book on 8 June at Sheelagh na Gig bookshop, Cloughjordan, Co. Tipperary, Crossing the Line: Nonviolent Resisters Speak Out for Peace, which brings together oral narratives from sixty-five peacemakers who have said no to war-making in the strongest way possible: by engaging in civil disobedience and paying the consequences in jail or prison. Among the riveting narratives in Crossing the Line is the dramatic story of the action and trials of the Shannon Five peace activists who non-violently dismantled a US war plane which had stopped in Ireland on its way to Iraq. At the discussion on 8 June, Rosalie will be joined by Deirdre Clancy, one of the participants in the Shannon action, and together they will describe the action where Deirdre and four others broke into Shannon airport and engaged the US military. read full story / add a comment

In 2006, it became public knowledge, that Britain's SS(secret services) helped the IRA organize 'human bomb' attacks, in a tactic involving, forcing civilians, to drive car bombs into British army checkpoints with devastating consequence. Source: Metropolitan Police, BBC, ITN, Sky, etc An incident in South East London this afternoon where a man was run over and then beheaded by the two men in the vehicle. The two guys then went for the armed response unit and were shot. read full story / add a comment

Well respected activist and contributor to indymedia was shot and injured by the Israeli military while filming a protest in the Palestinian village of Nabi Saleh in the occupied West Bank in Palestine on good Friday. He is ok but sustained a nasty injury to his arm. read full story / add a comment

The amount of money used to bail out failed banks would have ended world hunger for 50 years. This is the world presided over by G8 leaders who meet every year to co-ordinate how to continue failed policies which favour the 'have yachts' over the 'have nots'. Film description follows : " A TV network cynically exploits a deranged ex-TV anchor's ravings and revelations about the media for their own profit. In the 1970s, terrorist violence is the stuff of networks' nightly news programming and the corporate structure of the UBS Television Network is changing. Meanwhile, Howard Beale, the aging UBS news anchor, has lost his once strong ratings share and so the network fires him. Beale reacts in an unexpected way. Óglaigh na hÉireann yesterday (17th May) claimed responsibility through the media for a gun and bomb attack on British Police operating in the Twinbrook area of West Belfast. An attack which by all accounts forced a panicked PSNI unit to scramble along the ground for cover before retreating from the area altogether, albeit only for a few hours. read full story / add a comment
