An International week in solidarity with Iranian Workers is being organised for November 24-30, 2007. This action is support of the Iranian People and against the Capitalist Iranian Government but is also against the US Capitalist Warmongers. The recent wave of oppression against activists of workers' organizations in Iran and other social movements is not a new incident but a routine practice of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI). This wave of repression nevertheless has caused the radicalization and development of class-based labour protests. These conditions have jeopardized the entirety of Islamic Republic of Iran. Social and economic crises are rapidly escalating. It is a proven fact that the promises of the capitalist regime of Iran are false and that this regime has brought nothing but the continuous oppression of working people. This regime has caused ever-increasing poverty and misery for working class. read full story / add a comment

The Sixteen Day Campaign for stopping Violence Against Women is set for the 25th November to the Tenth of December 2007. Lip Service and Tokenism abound here, but it is a period that internationally women address Safety, Violence, Rape, Women's Aid and of course, how our divided societies create a wealth class of pseudo-feminism and an opposing class of community activism based wholly in gendered stereo-typing and money, or to be politically correct about it how we make our daughters second class citizens by ignoring their Basic Rights. http://www.indymedia.ie/article/82605 read full story / add a comment

Tony Blair had self-nominated David Miliband to take up the cudgels of office in the wake of his departure from office, but apart from creating a few little ripples the whole idea was a non-starter for Blair and for Miliband. He got placed, instead in Britain's Foreign Office and last night he began to use his office to 'make speeches' , which are both unbelievably crass and inopportune. They involve beligerence against an already pissed off Putin and a diplomatic word to 'Keep our promises to Turkey', meanwhile in Turkey, a political party with connections to the PKK is being banned. We all know what that means in Ireland.. Reductio ad Absurdum.:Reduce debate, achieve political consensus and sell off assets to benefit the wealthy. read full story / add a comment

While on his way there, the comrade, only 16 years of age, together with some friends, spotted a guy sporting nazi paraphernalia on the underground. When confronted, he pulled out a knife, stabbed Carlos, the comrade, in the heart, and another antifascist militant in the lung, while trying to run out of the tube station. Carlos died, the other guy has been badly hurt, but doctors say he will live. read full story / add a comment

People in Erris and around the world are puzzled by the resemblance of the new Garda Superintendent in Belmullet with "Johnny Sack" Sacramoni from the Sopranos Television programme. http://www.hbo.com/sopranos/cast/character/johnny_sack....shtml http://www.mayonews.ie/index.php?option=com_content&tas...id=38 Locals have speculated that the two may be related, or even whether the actor Vince Curatola has been hired by Mayo Gardaí to portray a heavy-handed police officer. Recent gangster tactics seen in Erris may indicate that the actor has taken his role too far. read full story / add a comment

Article 26 of the Declaration of Human Rights states that everyone has the right to education yet since 1979, the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has systematically sought to deprive its largest religious minority, the Bahá'í Faith, of the right to a full education. The situation in Iran represents perhaps the only case where the right to education is being intentionally denied to an entire group of people. This denial of education is based entirely on religious discrimination. read full story / add a comment

A large crowd braved the cold evening weather to attend the first Irish screening of the documentary on the trial of Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni Eight - "Don't Let Shell Kill Again" , which was appropriately projected onto the outside wall of the Shell headquarters building at 52 Lower Leeson Street in Dublin, on the 12th anniversary of the executions. Sister Majella McCarron, in what will probably be her last public appearance, made a short speech to provide a context for the film, remembering Saro-Wiwa and the others who were executed at the behest of Shell, after a series of events which shocked the world in 1995. Sister Majella gave us an insight into the situation in Ogoniland today, and Senator David Norris read an excerpt from Saro-Wiwa's speech at his sentencing hearing in Port Harcourt, when he and his co-defendants heard that the special military tribunal had decreed that they were to be hanged. read full story / add a comment
