CST launched a new court challenge today in the EU offices - the litigant is Michael Canney, former spokesman for the Campaign. Here follows a press release, a statement from Michael and a statement of support from our primary poet: Seamus Heaney. I'm hoping that there will photographs to follow. Here in Ireland the Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN) and Irish Anti Vivisection Society (IAVS) are holding a peaceful protest to shine light on animal experiments here in Ireland and around the world and to show that there is alternatives out there! read full story / add a comment

There has been a plethora of stories and images on this newswire in recent months of the suppression of Republican Political Dissent, the groups range from branches of the IRSP, through Eirigi and the re-opening of the Roisin Mc Aliskey extradition case by German Authorities. This letter gives an update on the continued oppression being inflicted on Iranian workers by the Iranian Dictatorship. It outlines why continued silidarity is necessary. Full text at link. Your August 9th international day of action was hugely welcomed and appreciated. Even if this has not yet led to the release of Mansoor Ossanlou and Mahmoud Salehi, it was a unique show of solidarity with workers and labour activists in Iran who are under constant persecution by the regime. I’m sure you are aware that in the past few months the Islamic regime in Iran has stepped up its persecution of protesting workers, women and students. The current wave of repression and executions is specifically targeting the widespread protests and strikes and the general anti-government climate in the country. The regime wants to intimidate the people. That’s why it has put up gallows in most cities and hanged scores in public in the past few weeks. read full story / add a comment

This an excerpt from a letter sent to Amnesty International, Human Rights Organizations and Student Associations and Groups regarding the illtreatment of students held in Iranian prisons. Full text of letter at the link. I am writing to you regarding the imprisoned students of Amirkabir University in Tehran. The Islamic Republic of Iran has launched a new wave of barbaric oppression in universities. Many students have been banned from studying; many others have been arrested and tortured. Three students of Amirkabir University, Majid Tavakoli, Ahmad Qassaban, and Ehsan Mansouri, have been accused of writing and distributing articles against Islamic Republic authorities and against Islam and they have been arrested. The aforementioned students have rejected the accusations; they have enough evidence to show that those articles were counterfeits made by the regime’s agents to be used against students. read full story / add a comment

The solution to this controversy is to re-route 7 km of the double- tolled Motorway, but it seems that vested interests in this area have been preventing the consideration of any alternatives.
