A heavy garda escort was provided for four African asylum seekers who were being escorted through Shannon airport, loaded on to a Garda 'paddy wagon' and put on a plane back to God knows where, at about 4.30 PM on Wed 11 July 07. Meanwhile, three US warplanes sat on the secured central area of the airfield, with an Irish army protection escort. read full story / add a comment

October 4th – 10th 2007 is world animal week. Here in Ireland, Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN) will organize a nationwide week of action to support our joint ‘Stop Circus Suffering in Ireland’ campaign with our colleagues at Animal Defenders International (www.ad-international.org). Across the country there will be local campaigners gathering petitions, writing letters, contacting the media and staging peaceful protests outside of circuses that use animals. Never before has our campaign being so successful at highlighting the terrible conditions and the suffering animals endure in traveling circuses, people are refusing to support this cruelty, they are choosing different forms of ‘entertainment’, our message is simple – Ban Animal Act Circuses in Ireland. read full story / add a comment

The first was in Pula , Croatia in 2002, followed by Athens (2003), Belgrade (2004) Graz (2005) and Timisoara (2006). According to a recent report by the Environmental Protection Agency Limerick will be flooded within 50 years (if not sooner) due to rising sea levels resulting from climate change.
