There are currently 2 Scania lorries carrying lengths of pipeline for Shell attempting to access farmers' land. They are being held by a van and about 13 local people. There is also one Gard present at the scene. The standoff has been going on since 6pm when local farmer Willie Corduff witnessed the lorries attempting to access (his)? land. This is the time to act folks. If you were up in Mayo at the weekend you'll know why. we HAVE to support these people. If you can get up there consider going. Perhaps we need a permanent activist presence there. If you can't get there do something in your own area. look for Shell offices, govt. offices, Statoil are part of the consortium too. We need a huge noise now to let these invaders know that they can't get away with this kind of shit. read full story / add a comment

Not so long ago on Indymedia Maura Harrington, a local campaigner implored people to come down to the solidarity gathering in Rossport against the construction of pipe line through the area. She said that “once you see the area you will agree with us that it is not the place for a gas refinery and an unprecedented high pressure up stream pipeline.” How right she was. Last weekend over two hundred people traveled to the back arse of Mayo to take part in a Reclaim The Beach celebration of resistance to Shell in the area and to attend workshops on Shell’s brutality in Nigeria, engage in walking tours of the area led by local campaigners and enter into a dialogue on how best to advance the campaign. read full story / add a comment |
