General Prisons Board was established in Ireland in 1878. Following the foundation of the State, its functions were absorbed by the Department of Justice. The Board was abolished in 1928. In 1969 the Public Services Organisation Review Group recommended the establishment of executive agencies assigned to Ministers but operating under the general supervision of part time boards. read full story / add a comment

The anti-bin tax campaign in Stoneybatter took its first action today when it blockaded a bin truck just off the Oxmantown road. The truck was blockaded for one hour as a solidarity gesture with the campaign in Fingal.
