Edward Horgan Resigns from Green Party
Veteran UN peacekeeper and human rights activist Dr. Edward Horgan was a prominent Green Party member until he resigned and gave his support for the EU elections to independent candidate Patricia McKenna.

Mr Horgan who was a prominent member of the Greens for many years tore up his Green Party membership card during a Green Party press conference saying that the party had not only let their voters down but also members of their own party.

Patricia McKenna stated; “I welcome Edward’s support, he has a great track record on highlighting human rights abuses and I am honoured that he is supporting my campaign.” read full story / add a comment

The finding of three mutilated greyhound carcasses this week at a popular seaside resort (Kilteery Pier in County Limerick) shows just how expendable these animals are deemed by their owners once their performance days are over.

The likelihood that they were greyhounds bred for hare coursing, judging from their build, should serve as yet another reminder that we are one of the few remaining countries that still permit this depraved and viciously cruel blood sport.

They were violent days of the suspension of civil rights that still weigh on the collective consciousness, along with the memory and sorrow for the death of Carlo Giuliani.
They were also days in which the "greatest men of the earth" developed the new creed of liberal globalization as it was a new universal religion. read full story / add a comment

Monday the 1st of June saw the arrival of a multitude of assorted vessels to Broadhaven bay. The boats, which are subcontracted by The Royal Dutch Shell company, are attempting to prepare for works on the controversial Corrib gas project. Today however, their progress has been significantly impaired by resident Shell to Sea activists that had already gathered a small, albeit formidable, fleet of kayaks, ready to deploy within short notice. read full story / add a comment

Part of the Shell causeway extending into the sea at Glengad was yesterday evening removed by Shell to Sea protesters. This was in protest at the illegal blocking of access to the public beach and to oppose the forcing of this unsafe project on the local community and the giveaway of Ireland's natural resources.

The new deepwater port, a joint venture between REO and Drogheda Port with Hong Kong maritime conglomerate Hutchison Whampoa lined up to develop the master plan, could ultimately replace Dublin Port if the Government was to decide that it should be relocated; one of Bremore’s selling points is its close proximity to the M1 motorway.....so many unrealised plans by different developers over the past 20 years that it seems as if some sort of jinx hangs over it. read full story / add a comment

Patricia McKenna "Fianna Fáil voters did not vote Fianna Fáil back into office to bail out banks at their expense and burden their children with massive debts"
national / politics / elections / feature Tuesday June 02, 2009 12:13 by Patricia McKenna   text 12 comments (last - wednesday july 15, 2009 11:10)   image 1 image
Independent Euro candidate and former MEP Patricia McKenna is calling for the Green Party to withdraw from Government. Her call is being backed by former Green Party Councillors Chris O'Leary and Betty Doran.

They are appealing to the Green Party to do what is needed for Ireland by pulling out of government, thus causing a general election. If the Greens stand behind what Fianna Fáil is currently trying to do, they will be participating in economic treason. If they allow NAMA - which has the taxpayers riding to the rescue of banks that were bankrupted with the help of Fianna Fáil leaders and their cronies - to be voted through, there will be no going back and the people of this nation will be footing the bill for generations to come. The Government has no mandate to go ahead with NAMA. The only democratic action would be to ask the people what options they prefer to take to help address the current crisis. read full story / add a comment

Hi folks!
In the most hysterical hatchet-job to date on the campaign against Shell's discredited and disastrous inland refinery experiment in north Mayo, Sunday World crime-fighter Paul Williams turns shock jock as he presents a "documentary" about the Corrib Gas project on TV3 at 9pm on Tuesday, 2nd June. To accompany what is set to be an entertaining farce, we bring you a one-off Telly Bingo game so you can track whether any facts, relevant information or editorial balance creeps into the show. read full story / add a comment

Just when Fianna Fail's Dublin Euro Candidate Eoin Ryan thought it couldn't get much worse, it did. Mary Harney publicly endorsed him!

The hapless Eoin must have felt his political lifeblood chill as Harney's cold kiss of political support sealed his fate.Already spurned by many categories of workers from airport staff to teachers - all victims of Fianna Fail's slash and burn response to the Fianna Fail induced crash - now every nurse, doctor, hospital attendant and taxi driver whom Harney has alienated in her day will join the revolt. read full story / add a comment

Yesterday, in the Galway Alliance Against War organised 99 Red Balloons Peace Event, revulsion and outrage were expressed against the highjacking of the relatively pristine Volvo Ocean Race to piggy back a display by the RAF Red Arrows over Galway Bay, touting militarism with their bullshit antics in the sky and catering to the desensitized appetites of the faithful down below - some of whom, in the throes of their warped morality hurled abuse at the peace mongers assembled in the Spanish Arch Plaza. read full story / add a comment
