On Monday evening 28th December, first anniversary of the ferocious Israeli assault on Gaza, approximately 80 people attended a candlelit vigil outside Belfast City Hall to draw attention to the continuing illegal Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip. On Sunday 27th December the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign erected a memorial tree in Limerick city centre to mark the first anniversary of Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza last winter, The names of the 1415 people who were killed during the 22 day assault were printed on colour-coded cards for the public to attach to the tree - blue for men, pink for women and white cards for the over 300 children killed. A detailed list of the names, addresses, gender, ages, and occupation of those murdered was displayed on large laminated sheets for the public to study and see for themselves the fact that the overwhelming majority of the victims were innocent civilians. read full story / add a comment

A vigil was held on Patrick's Bridge in Cork city this afternoon to mark the beginning of the Gaza massacre last year. More than 1,400 people - including over 300 children - were killed by Israeli forces during the onslaught. Following several months of fundraising, four teams from across Ireland departed on Saturday, 5 December, to travel 4,000 miles across land to Gaza in Palestine to deliver ambulances and humanitarian aid to the besieged people of that tiny region.
