On the evening of Tuesday 30th March 2010 the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) in Dublin commemorated Palestinian Land Day by holding a solidarity picket outside the GPO on O'Connell Street from 5 - 7pm, during which hundreds of leaflets were distributed. The picket was attended by over thirty members and supporters of the IPSC, in a colourful and lively display of solidarity which brought a certain vivaciousness to O'Connell Street on such a dismal evening. read full story / add a comment

On Thursday 25th March 2010 at Belmullet District Court, charges against 9 Shell to Sea protesters were withdrawn or dismissed by Judge Gerard Haughton, because the '9' had been unlawfully detained following their arrest and they were not brought to court 'as soon as practicable', amounting to a 'conscious and deliberate violation of their constitutional rights'. In the 'test' case of Mr Eoin Lawless, potentially effecting all of the 9, the court ruled that the accused was/were held for an unreasonable amount of time before being charged, they were denied 'station bail' and were unreasonably delayed before being brought to court to allow them to apply for release on bail. Barrister Leo Mulrooney, acting for the 9, had put it to Garda Superintendent Michael Larkin that he had failed in his duty to vindicate the rights of the prisoners, and when asked to account to the court for his inaction, Judge Gerard Haughton expressed dissatisfaction with Supt. Larkin's explanation. read full story / add a comment

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign (IPSC) today expressed its shock and dismay at revelations unearthed by Limerick-based researcher Seán Clinton in his recent exposé on the role of Israel in the global diamond industry. Mr. Clinton’s article, published last night on the respected Electronic Intifada website (http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article11170.shtml), highlights how the industry deceives the public by playing up benefits accruing to poorer countries through the Kimberly Process – the stated aim of which is to eliminate ‘blood diamonds’ - while simultaneously hiding the fact that Israel, a state that has militarily occupied Palestine for more than 40 years, is the world’s biggest beneficiary of the diamond industry. read full story / add a comment

Top Orangeman will contest poll for BNP Irish News, 26 March 2010 by Barry McCaffrey The Orange Order has refused to disassociate itself from a leading member who is due to stand as a BNP candidate in the Westminster election. Yesterday the order was widely criticised after calling on members to protest against Pope Benedict's visit to England in September. Last night it emerged that Nick Blake, a district master of the Orange Order in Devon, had been selected to stand for the far-right British National Party. The order's leaderships in Northern Ireland and in England yesterday rejected calls from Alliance MLA Anna Lo to disassociate itself from Mr Blake, who will contest the poll in the constituency of Torridge and West Devon. read full story / add a comment

On Saturday, March 20th, the second demonstration in defence of Rozbrat took place. About 1,500 - 2,000 people from Poznan, Poland and from abroad took part in it. The demonstration started at 6.00 p.m. in the centre of Poznan. Many squatters from Berlin and different Polish and foreign cities arrived there. They were representing various social and political organizations. There were loads of banners with slogans in Polish, English and in German, saying eg. “City is not a company”, “Reclaim the city”, “Rozbrat not for sale”, “Stop the privatisation of public space”, “Rozbrat stays, no compromise”, “No to the culture of money” etc. The goal of the demo was to show our disobey to the neo-liberal politics of the city authorities, who represent the interests of business and also to show the potential investors that an attempt to evict us from there will be met with strong resistance and it will be really expensive. We're ready for direct and legal fight. read full story / add a comment

The 14 Raytheon accused are 9 women and 5 men, based in Derry, in the north of Ireland, who are facing criminal charges after they used Non Violent Direct Action to access the Raytheon Software plant in Derry, in an attempt to disarm the mainframe computer. Raytheon are the world's largest manufacturer of missiles and the world's fifth largest weapons manufacturer. Until they left in February 2010 (thanks to all the action taken against them), Raytheon's Derry software plant developed the firmware for transponders, targeting software and other crucial guidance system-related work for weapons. Their factories globally manufacture Tomahawk Cruise missiles, Sidewinder missiles, Hellfire missiles, the "Bunker Buster" bombs, the delivery systems for Cluster bombs, White Phosphate and Napalm. read full story / add a comment
