The Irish Climate Camp will take place this year at Victoria Bridge, County Tyrone, from the 12th to the 16th of August. The camp is taking place in support of the local community and their opposition to the proposed new A5 – a project that will cost a lot of money, a lot of energy (carbon emissions) and really makes no logical sense since vehicle numbers using that route have decreased considerably over recent years. Climate camp Ireland is a group of individuals that believe in taking direct action to prepare for and mitigate the effects of climate change. This morning 11 people from Rossport Solidarity Camp waded and kayaked out from the camp to again delay Shell’s survey work in Sruwaddacon Estuary. Overall drilling work was stopped for over 5 hours, with one person climbing up one of the legs of the drilling platforms. Gormley was quite happy to not grant a foreshore licence for the Poolbeg incinerator in his own constituency, but seems set to allow Shell to put the health and safety of the community in Erris at risk and destroy a Special Area of Conservation. 10 people from the Rossport solidarity camp delayed Shell’s survey work for the dangerous and experimental Corrib gas pipeline yesterday. The campaigners waded out to one of the rigs drilling boreholes in the Sruwaddacon estuarythe rig at high tide, fixed rope around the legs of the rig, and occupied the space underneath it to prevent the being moved to a new site. While media attention has bee heaped upon Wiki-Leaks, one person has been largely forgotten: Bradley Manning. Private Bradley Manning has been accused of previously supplying information to Wikileaks and is under suspicion of providing the documents which have been released. Bradley is now held in isolation from the outside world, in military detention in Kuwait. Bradley faces, for his alleged actions, up to 52 years imprisonment. Here are two articles regarding Bradley. Dublin Shell to Sea yesterday held a demonstration in solidarity with Niall Harnett who spent his 100th day in prison for opposing Shell's experimental gas pipeline in Erris.
