DDCI calls on incoming Government to prioritise strict regulation of controversial funds A new report released today (Tuesday May 3rd) by Debt Development Coalition Ireland highlights the manner in which vulture funds have aggressively bought up large volumes of debt in recent years, and how this form of financial speculation has had hugely negative social impacts both in Ireland and the Global South. Please come and show your support and opposition to the crimes against humanity being carried out by Turkey. At 1pm there will be a peaceful vigil at the Turkish embassy, 8 Raglan Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. At 6:30pm there will be a public rally at the Spire in O'Connell Street. CHASE has launched a plume plotter for the proposed 240,000 tonne incinerator at Ringaskiddy Co Cork. Developed by plumeplotter.com it provides a real time map image modelling ground-level pollution from the incinerator plume, modelled using AERMOD taking incinerator specifications provided by Indaver in their EIS, current weather data from local weather stations, Ordnance Survey (OS) data for places and NASA data for terrain. Residents in the Cork Harbour area and far beyond can use the plume plotter to see pollutant dispersal at any given time on www.plumeplotter.com/ringaskiddy. read full story / add a comment

"New research also indicates that the frequency and severity of violence forcing women to leave their homes could be worse than previously documented" SAFE Ireland warned that homeless figures and needs are being greatly under-estimated because over 4,000 women and children being accommodated on a yearly basis in emergency refuge accommodation are not being counted and recognised as being homeless. At the launch today of a new SAFE Ireland report The State We Are In, CEO Sharon O’Halloran stressed that women and children forced to leave violent homes are being caught in the cross-fire of the national housing crisis. She said that 37 services that participated in new housing research as part of The State We Are In are reporting that they have never seen things so bad for women and children. read full story / add a comment

The Bord Pleanala Oral Hearing for Indavers 240,000 tonne incinerator application at Ringaskiddy is due to commence in Carrigaline Court on Tuesday next, 19 April at 10.30pm. Previous hearings lasted 3 weeks, and a similar time is expected to be allocated to this hearing. read full story / add a comment

This article which appeared in the Southern Star was reposted by Shell To Sea and is now reposted by Indymedia because it recounts the plunder of our fishing resources by foreign countries and how just like our Oil and Gas resources, these were given away by our own politicians. These politicians are the direct ideological descendants of the right wing counter-revolutionaries who completely over turned the ideals of 1916 and have ruled this country ever since. This whole area of how our fishing resources have been taken away from us needs to be highlighted more and a campaign is needed to take back this resource and ensure it is managed sustainably. read full story / add a comment

Today campaigners of the Robin Hood Tax Campaign presented a cheque for €1.8bn at Leinster House in Dublin. It represents the amount of revenue a Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) could raise over the 5 year lifespan of the next Government. Also called the Robin Hood Tax, its implementation would oblige financial institutions to pay a tiny tax on trading in bonds, shares and derivatives. read full story / add a comment

Bord Pleanala have refused a request by CHASE for an extension to the Oral Hearing date for Indavers Ringaskiddy incinerator application and confirmed that the Oral Hearing will start on 19 April at Carrigaline Court Hotel at 10.30am, citing 12 July 2016 as deadline date under Strategic Infrastructure Process. CHASE wrote to An Bord Pleanala following receipt of registered letters on 31 March/1st April advising of the hearing date, leaving just 12 working days preparation for the hearing. Previous hearings lasted 3 weeks. Bord Pleanala received over 220 submissions objecting to the proposal, each of which was accompanied by a payment of 50Euro. Objections were made by all 4 TD’s for the South Central area, including Defence Minister Simon Coveney, Fine Fail Party Leader Micheal Martin, Michael McGrath (FF) and newly elected Sinn Fein TD Donnchadh O’Laoghaire. read full story / add a comment
