On Saturday, October 13, éirígí Tallaght will hold a demonstration at the constituency office of Twenty-Six County Labour Minister Pat Rabbitte, in protest at the recent announcement of an 8.5 percent price hike in gas bills. The protest will start at 1pm and last for about an hour. Pat Rabbitte’s constituency office is located on the Main Street in Tallaght village. read full story / add a comment

The British Vice Royal in British Occupied Ireland, Theresa Villiers, while on a visit to Dublin, at the start of October, asked, about the internment without trial of republican Marian Price interned in May 2011, by her predecessor Owen Paterson, claiming to revoke a non-existent licence, on which she had been supposedly released in 1980, stated. “A number of people have raised this with me, so I know it’s a sensitive issue, I know there is concern about it, but the reality is that this is not a decision for me, this is a decision for the Parole Commissioners and they are conducting their review at the moment. If I were to seek to intervene politically in what is a legal process I think that would be wholly inappropriate.” read full story / add a comment

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has secured a fourth term in office after defeating Henrique Capriles. There was a turnout of 81% with Chavez securing 54.66% to Capriles' 44.73%..While this was comfortable victory margin it was down from the 27 point lead in 2006. Recognising this Chavez praised the opposition for recognising the election result, and said he was "stretching out my hands and heart on our behalf because we are brothers in Bolivar's homeland". Chavez addressed his supporters from the balcony of the presidential palace and said: "Truthfully, this has been the perfect battle, a democratic battle. Venezuela will continue its march toward the democratic socialism of the 21st Century. I promise you I'll be a better president." read full story / add a comment

October 3, 2012 By Dara Gantly The first large-scale study to explore surgical outcomes across Europe has found that Irish patients have the highest risk of dying in Western Europe and the fourth-worst mortality rate among 28 European countries. Dublin’s ‘Open House’ architectural festival has shamefully lent its name to an event sponsored by the Israeli Embassy in Ireland. This event, entitled ‘Postcards of our City’ is due to be launched on at 6.30pm Thursday 4th October in Dublin Civic Trust (4 Castle St, Dublin 2), is the latest attempt by the Israeli state to use ‘cultural propaganda’ to whitewash its human rights abuses and war crimes against the Palestinian people. After Roisin Shortall's departure yesterday from Government with little or no support from her so called Labour colleagues, Roisin must wonder today, if she too is a prisoner of the island of Lilliput. Despite Ms Shortall's principled resignation, the Taoiseach Enda Kenny, his Labour Tanaiste Eamonn Gilmore and other so called former Labour comrades, all leapt instead to the defence of super capitalist Health Minister Dr James Reilly or perhaps more accurately, to the defence of their luxurious ministerial salaries, from the little Irish taxpayers. From The Irish Times , September 24 2012 Twelve months ago I gave a presentation on the subject of youth drug and alcohol abuse to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children. I highlighted the huge pressures facing Ireland’s youth, including peer pressure, bullying, unemployment and emigration, all within a national atmosphere of despair over our collective future. I focused on the widespread culture of binge drinking in Ireland, which appears to be often ignored, accepted or normalised by many parents, publicans, politicians and law enforcers. read full story / add a comment |
