Cartoons have become explosive, underlining deep political fault lines in the new world order and more often than not, concealing bigotry and diverting debate from racism and imperialism to the much abused concept of “freedom of expression”. The latest episode was started by a cartoon published in Ha’aretz in which the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Minister of Defence Ehud Barak, say farewell to troops on the way to bomb Iran, while asking them to bomb the UNESCO offices in Ramallah on the way back. read full story / add a comment ![]()

The CAUSE " STOP THE RAPE OF MARIAN PRICE " Has 1,101 members but it was sabotaged by provocateurs suggesting it referred to sexual Rape. It is obviously about POLITICAL rape but for the politically ignorant who would promote division, dis-information and censorship, the video below explains it far better than I could. read full story / add a comment ![]()

A protest outside the Israeli Embassy sponsored “Israeli Film Days” in Temple Bar turned acrimonious this evening when Gardai broke up a peaceful demonstration by pro-Palestinian activists outside the venue. Citing Section 21 of the Public Order Act, Gardai forcibly removed around sixty activists from the area outside the venue, Filmbase, on Curved Street in Temple Bar, while others were removed from inside the venue. read full story / add a comment ![]()

RTE broadcast an unforgivable and totally unjustifiable libel on Fr Michael Reynolds. They broadcast on air an untrue allegation that he fathered a child with a child in Africa - despite his offer to undergo a paternity test. He took them to court and rightfully to the cleaners.
Now RTE are subject to a Broadcasting authority of Ireland enquiry as well as one undertaken by the Press Ombudsman, Professor John Horgan.
Who has ridden over the ridge to to proclaim all that is holy in journalism? None other than Eoghan Harris, and his newspaper, the Sunday Independent.
Harris wants Ed Mulhall, RTE's head of news, sacked (20th November). Harris has been attacking Mulhall for years. Who knows what for and who cares, just for the moment. read full story / add a comment

Hands Off the People of Iran unequivocally condemns the ratcheting up of sanctions on Iran in the aftermath of the much-heralded report of the International Atomic Energy Agency on that country’s nuclear capability on November 8. The report did little more than confirm the assessment that Hopi arrived at some time ago: that at worst Iran may be interested in the so-called ‘Japanese’ option. This is nuclear development that stops just short of the capacity to produce a nuclear weapon - but only by a month or so. But this is something that has been commented on many times before.
Despite the fact that this report contained little or nothing that was new (it was little more than a compilation of UK satellite pictures and the pre-existing reports of the CIA and other western intelligence agencies), imperialist leaders have fallen over themselves to express horror and outrage at these ‘new’ findings: read full story / add a comment ![]()

THE heroes of the 1916 Rising have been turfed out of one of the country's most prestigious golf clubs.
While these bastions of the sporting elite can be notoriously picky about who they do and do not allow to enter, eyebrows have been raised after the management of Druids Glen Golf Resort in Co Wicklow decided to evict the seven signatories of the 1916 proclamation.
Their portraits have graced the stairs of the clubhouse, Woodstock House, since it opened in 1995. However, they no longer suit the "ambience" and will be put up for auction later this month. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Johannes Stern writes on how the US client Military Junta in Egypt has carried out a murderous attack on protesters. Interestingly: State TV cited US police actions against Occupy Wall Street protests to justify the repression of protests on Tahrir Square. Tellingly, many of the tear gas canisters used against Egyptian protesters were made in the US. Full text at link.
The US views the military as the backbone of the Egyptian bourgeois state, defending capitalist rule and the interests of Western imperialism in the Middle East. Ever since the mass uprising that led to the ouster of Mubarak on February 11, the Obama administration has worked closely with SCAF to try to end strikes and protests by Egyptian workers demanding social equality and democratic rights. It has sought at all costs to prevent a second revolution. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Filmbase in Dublin will be hosting a series of “Israeli Film Days” sponsored by the Israeli Embassy between November 24th and 27th. The IPSC is calling on our supporters to mobilise in opposition to this attempt to use “culture” to whitewash Israeli apartheid and human rights violations against the Palestinian people.
In 2005 a director of the Israeli foreign ministry stated that “We see culture as a hasbara [propaganda] tool of the first rank, and do not differentiate between propaganda and culture.” Filmbase has sold out to the Israeli regime by offering itself as a vehicle for this propaganda. It has sacrificed the power of culture to the culture of power.
The IPSC will be staging a series of protests and leaflettings outside the venue over the course of the festival. If you can make it along to any or all of the mobilisations then please do, it is very important that we do not allow this attempt at normalising the abnormal to happen without raising our voices in opposition. read full story / add a comment ![]()

On the 29th November 2001, International Day of Solidarity With the Palestinian People, the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign was formally launched at a public meeting in Trinity College Dublin. This year will mark a decade of the IPSC and our solidarity work in Ireland. In that short decade, we have had both victories and setbacks, and we continue to campaign to help Palestinians achieve the full human, national and democratic rights that they are guaranteed under international law, but denied by Israel’s apartheid regime. read full story / add a comment ![]()
