15,000 tonnes of Oil so far have entered the sea as Lebanon's power plant burns

The Israeli airforce as we must know by now, in their fight against an estimated 18,000 strong terrorist organisation have destroyed 80% of the infrastructure of a nation-state of less than 4 million people.

They've now topped it off by bombing Southern Lebanon's Jiyeh power plant. A plant which had 6 fuel tanks, 4 of them have now burnt - Lebanon is appealing for foam - 1 is still is burning - and 15,000 tonnes of oil have poured onto more than 90 kilometres of the Lebanese coast from Jiyyeh to Shekka, north of the capital, including Beirut's only sandy public beach of Ramlet al-Baida,the coast.

To put this in perspective the Prestige Oil Tanker polluted Galicia in Spain by sinking off coast with 30,000 tonnes of oil. At risk is not only the wildlife of the eastern Mediterranean sea, and ironically the fish and birds of northern Israel as well as all of Lebanon - but also the comparatively rare "green back turtle". Its so rare they sell T-shirts of it and do their best to keep it off the extinction list...,

Racist attacks increasing despite quiet march season

Racist attacks have risen by 35 per cent in a year, averaging five attacks every day.

Despite successful efforts to minimise tensions around flashpoint Klu Klux Klan parades, this summer has nevertheless seen a marked rise in racist attacks when compared with last year. Latest police figures show that since April there have been an average of 38 racist attacks across the north every week. read full story / add a comment

We will be leafleting at the Shell HQ at 52 Lwr Leeson Street (corner of adelaide road) from 1PM onwards.

Shell announced quarterly profits of 6 Billion Euro yesterday.

Today at 11, the "independent" mediator is set to publish his report, even though mediation broke down in the face of Shell's intransigence.

Eoin Ó Broin is looking for sponsorship to shave his dreads to raise money for the solidarity camp.

Nora Connolly O'Brien (1893-1981)

"For many centuries, we ni Ireland have had an unbroken tradition of each generation having an armed uprising against Britain. In my generation we had an armed uprising in 1916 with the proclamation of freedom of the Republic of Ireland... Here we are rising again, and if we go down, we'll rise again!"
