People are about to be killed in two provinces of Ecuador to protect the "rights" of an Oil corporation. Ecuador's government (not an exemplary one) has asked for Venezuala's assistance to continue its exports of crude Oil. Venezuala is "loaning" the oil, which is then being "put through the global books" as Ecuadorian, so that they continue to "meet their international obligations". They have been unable to "meet their international obligations" recently because the people of Sucumbios and Orellana provinces have been protesting because they believe their government are failing to "meet their national obligations". read full story / add a comment ![]()

There is another M3 Route available which does not pass through the Tara valley. It is 3.5km shorter, passes Tara 5km away, and is €50m cheaper than the current route. It also offers the possibility of linking Trim to the M3. read full story / add a comment ![]()

on the 14th of August 1969 British troops entered the statelet of Northern Ireland, an event which came to be seen by many as the start of modern Irish History. on the 24th of March 1972 the post of "Secretary of State for Northern Ireland" was created by the UK government after the dissolution of the Stormont parliament which had ruled the statelet since 1922. The 11th person to hold the post, and the only woman was Dr. Marjorie "Mo" Mowlam who was the British government direct ruler of northern Ireland from May 3, 1997 to the 11th of October 1999 She died today at 56 years of age. read full story / add a comment ![]()

Over EUR 3000.00 raised for the Rossport Five Fund as over 40 musicians, singers and dancers played to a packed audience for over four hours at The Russell Cultural Centre in Doolin, last night Thursday 18th August. Thanks to concert organiser Mattie Shannon. Thanks also to Mike Shanahan, Kevin Griffin, Shane McGowan, Michael Nagle, Ritchie Jones, Ritchie Nagle and Carol Weafer for sound and looking after things on the night.
